What temps? What T-stat? IMO the stocker with a Mech fan and shroud is the way to go.

I was going to text you after work too. I'm running in the mid 200's most likely high 200's now because it's hot out. I haven't put my Engine link reader on yet to check. I should when I get home. With the added plate to the bumper I'm thinking I'm not getting enough air flow from the front. I get home and engine bay is super hot. I'll look into what you suggested too.

From my understanding there is two radiator's for the first gen. A longer or shorter one in height. I'm running the shorter one. But I don't think I can fit the longer one now because of my bumper.

I ended up replacing my radiator. Huge difference. My airflow was restricted because of years if mud and gunk build up. Hard to see it and hard to clean it without damaging the fins.

The stock gauge is worthless, check what you are actually running before making any changes. My front bumper and lights never changed my coolant temp, there is still room for the fan to pull air around your bumper. I bet it's the same temp just feels hotter since it's been hot out and add some radiant heat off the hood, windshield, black bumper.

I've read good things about this and have considered doing it.

You have an auto tranny though so you should have the taller one because the oem tranny cooler is in the bottom section of that radiator thus making it taller..

But it doesn't make it cool better then a manual one.

Ok I'll just keep reading up on the 3.0 radiator. Thanks for your reply

The truck came with the taller one. But when I replaced it I from vato zone it was shorter. It still has the auto tranny cooling section on bottom. :notsure: Who knows.... cheap aftermarket one I guess.

Huh. That is odd. Wonder if it was a 4 banger one...because if you have a newer radiator you should be under 200

When I got the radiator I still had the 2.7 at the time. That might be the reason why. I just finished swinging by Tims and with his Scan guage I was 202-206. He says that's fine for the 3.4 But Im really considering the 3 row. I would like to be under 200. Thats where my 2.7 used to run at. I found a cool link. You might like it.

    Put a 170 t stat in it.

    https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/MRD17

The 3.4 with the smallest (18 5/8") radiator and stock fan, clutch, shroud will still cool just fine. You'll need an external trans cooler with the smaller radiator.

    http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/toyota,2002,tacoma,3.4l+v6,1388987,cooling+system,radiator,2172

    There are 3 different sizes that toyota put in 1st gen, 18 5/8, 20.75, and 22 5/8

I had the Total Chaos Upper Ball Joint adapters, and with the rented big C clamp ball joint tool and my Snap On air impact they popped right out.

Was nice when the front wheels was over a rock and the back were spinning, flip a switch and move right on over
