    Sweet- rolled with someone in Moab- 2nd Gen with canvas topper from AK with a crawl box up a vertical wall...It was wild.

    It doesn't look very difficult- just need the welder :D Pretty crafty and can design sh*t easily. Only lacking in the funds department to start on all of that :rolleyes:

    Not much man, been a bit of a stand still as I've been unemployed for a while.

    Up coming projects are home,add skids and I'm going to weld up some compartments that'll go it the floor of the bed :spy:

    Then either splurge and get a winch and CO2 system..or über save up for LT/lockers/gears/35s or a supercharger..or crawl box..decisions decisions..

    Tell me about it :eek:

    So back to the trailer topic........

    Take a look at the trailing arm/airbag setup that are used for suspension on the trailers built by Adventure Trailers. That setup is is probably the best setup for suspension travel.

    However, a trailer is just not going to handle big whoops like a LT truck will even with a really good suspension setup. Trailers typically are not heavy enough (nor would you want them to be) to cycle the suspension enough. You'd have to have a REALLY soft suspension given the weight of the trailer and then you would lose all your load capacity. If you build the suspension to handle a typically load, the trailer is still so light that high speed are going to have the trailer in the air more than it's on the ground.

    Best compromise IMO, build a good trailer arm/airbag suspension that way you can adjust the pressure in the bags for the load and run as large a tire as possible with low pressure in the tires. The tires will absorb lots of the smaller bumps and rocks and the bags will absorb the bigger hits.

    FWIW, I went cheap and simple on the suspension on my trailer. I'm just using standard 3500# trailer leaf springs. There is not much flex in the suspension but I run 315/75R16 tires on it at about 10psi. I always impressed with how well it handles even at decent speeds. Big hits still get the trailer airborn, but it does surprisingly well. I have pulled the trailer as fast as probably 70mph on the dirt with some decent bumps.

    The other option that seems to work well is a longer set of leaf springs. Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters is using some old Land Cruiser springs (several leaves removed) on his offroad trailer. The longer springs definitely help too. I will probably go this route just for simplicity with my own trailer at some point.
