Once spring hits I'm trading in my 2010 reg cab for a 2019 sr 4x4 6speed, manual is getting old for the places I drive lately. Looking forward to bucket seats and extra storage for hunting and moto gear

Bob you still have the Undercover Elite on your truck? Still liking it? I'm still undecided if I want to cash my pre-paid funeral in and buy one or not.

    Hi ChaseFan!
Yes, I still have the Undercover and like it in every way. After three years, the finish is as good as new. Easy and practical to operate. And when I need to put big stuff in the bed, it goes off like nothing: wy wife, who is petite, just help me out to put it down and back on again. I recommend this cover without reservation.

I have tied down plastic trays near the tailgate (using reuseable tie-wraps) to put grocery in or loose stuff when we go on vacation. The cover converts the bed into a large trunk. Of course, you would not leave valuable items in there since the lock, although sturdy, could be defeated with a crow bar. Better still than soft covers that could be cut open with a knife...

Update to the October 12, 2018 comment on the performance of my 2016, 2.7L Tacoma on hilly terrain. Back from that trip, I considered shopping for a V6, but deleted the thought.
In June of 2019, we went on a 3,000km trip to the Quebec area called Côte-Nord, up until Natasquan, some 40 kilometer before the road ends. We have many similar trips in mind.
That trip again, going up steep hills and passing annoyed me many times. So I came back with, again, the thought of at least test driving a Tacoma V6. Which I did.
And I was impressed, so I started shopping but the actual $$$ for a trade in was steep. Persisting shopping I managed to gather a decent deal, saving some 2-3k in the way. I am now the proud owner of a 2019 Tacoma, SR5, 4x4, V6, auto trans.
I enjoy every kilometer I put on it, and will travel the highway for 400km next week. Going round St-Jean's lake planned for September.
As I am writing this, I can hear coyotes barking and howling in the nearby woods.
My actual ride is a shade of blue (called Cavalry Blue/Voodoo Blue) as Barcelona Red was not available in the whole eastern part of Canada.
My Undercover Elite bed cover was easily transferred, as well as Weather Tech front floor mats, and the Canada flag front plate. There are a few technological adds on to the truck, I may comment about later. Let's say I am not a great fan except for the heated seats (wy wife loves), the heated side mirrors, and the electrochromic driver mirror.

My 2015 5 speed, one of the last 2nd gens off the assembly line has dual vvti, it even said on the spec sheet when I was looking at it before I bought it.

No doubt, you own a very good machine that you could keep for a long time. A couple of my acquaintances own 2010 Tacomas, bought new, and they are not in any way close to trade in.

That’s awesome bro, now I gotta go out and check mine, lol... I feel it’s just a single VVTi though.

What’s the easiest way to tell the difference?

I know toyota started trickling them in to the last of the 2nd gens but didn't say anything at first. You might have it. I'd check your manual and go to engine information or look up your vin number.

I’m wondering if there is an easy way to tell by looking at the engine?

I'm not to sure. Im not a mechanic so my skills are limited. Just search your vin # and see what it says about your truck.

I ended up getting a dealing on a 6 i could not say no to. I gotta admit this 6 is just perfect for me and no major issues with trans like people are saying. Haven't regretted the decision yet

Anyone in this thread feel like the auto trans shifts weird? I got 17 SR5 4X4 4 cylinder. To me the it shifts at weird rpms. I don’t really look at the dash but I can hear it.

I have a 2017 4x4 with 888 coils and it’s 1 inch higher in the front than the rear with a aal.

It seems looking at Toyota.ca you cant even get a 4 cylinder up here. I havent even seen a used one newer than 2018 so I am thinking that was the last year they were offered in Canada.

Ok thanks. I think that means 888s will give me too much lift being a lighter front end with the 2wd 2.7L if I do an aal with my cab rack and rtt. I’ll have to go 886 or 887.
