I'm pretty sure my temp gauge reads a bit past 1/2 once warmed up after 5 mins or so.

I'm also pretty sure this was a concern for me when I first purchased my truck. I thought it was pretty high.

That’s normal. When the engine turns off the cooling systems stops and the residual heat left in the engine increases momentarily.

Yep.. after a few months I just chalked it up to normal... There were several "concerns" I had with this truck when it was new because it was different from my first gen v6 Taco.

So far I'm very happy I decided to get a 4cyl... I'd be looking at a timing belt replacement in a couple years if I stuck with a V6... Oil changes are easy and fairly mess free... There's plenty of room in the engine bay.. love this little pickup .

Thank you for the reply. Here is a picture of mine. I love everything about the truck other than this about the temp gauge. All my other Toyotas have been the other way with the temp gauge pointing a little on the cool side. Im even thinking of putting in a 170 thermostat if I can find a OEM one that fits.

That sounds high. I have a 2019 RWD Double Cab with the 2.7 and i run a scan guage and here in SoCal my water temp stays a constant 186 and when im in stop and go, it may hit 190 before dropping down to 186. The numbers you’re saying seem high.

I think it’s hi too but not sure what I can do about it. I know dealer going to say within specs plus I don’t really want them messing around with my new truck. I wonder what can be causing this. What’s your gauge sitting at?

This is just crushing around flat land. I could understand if it was being worked going around in the mountains. My concern is when I’m done braking it in and do go to the mountains how hot it’s going to get.

I think I’m going to try and see if this oem thermostat rated 170 instead of 180 will help. I hope I’m not masking a more serious problem. IMG_5037.jpg

I don't think you have a problem. Once the thermostat opens it should keep the temperature from going higher, even in the mountains.

If it were my truck I would leave it alone and drive it.

Good insight. Think I've gone through your build a couple times. Need to look at your tire and wheel set up again as I'm looking to keep things light.

I have just about 50k on my current tires and you can tell it's time for a new set . I have been on a couple different beaches this spring and you could tell my tires are not digging in like they used to. They are getting loud and splashy in wet conditions. They are riding a little rougher than usual as well..

I am most likely going to get another set of falkens (Wildpeak or Rubitrek) or I'm really leaning towards the Hankook Dynapro AT2 Extreme. At 39lbs per tire it's worth a shot to see how they do... The Falkens have been AWESOME tires for the $525 I paid for them... No such luck getting a set for that price anymore.

My 2.7 temp gauge sits about dead middle never seen it go lower or higher after it gets up to temp just drive the truck theres nothing wrong. @2k2 have you ever thought of skinnies 235/85/16? i have lightweight FSW 2020 trd replica wheels which are 17.4 lbs and 265/75/16 Cooper at3 4s which weight 41lbs. I like the tire but was looking at 235/85/16 Firestone Destination X/T for my next set 39lbs same overall height as the 265/75/16 but less narrow at 1'' which i think the 2TR-FE will like.

I have indeed thought about it, but never really researched. Maybe I should do some investigation. I'd like to maybe see some pictures of Tacoma's with pizza cutters. Is there any real benefit other than contact patch and weight? Enlightenment me sir . Please.

I did some homework on them I think for the 2.7 it will be the happy medium of retaining power and still having a bump in tire size. Less rolling resistance, should be a little better mpg. I’ve seen they are just as good off-road since the contact patch spreads out when you air down. They look good with stock height or small lift. I think they look a little undersized with a big lift but so does all 32” tall tires. My coopers have a lot of life on them so I’ve been watching for the firestones to go on sale. They are the lightest 235/85/16 AT that I’ve come across.

Using the scan gauge my runs about the same, 188 to 196 in 90 degree
weather. Minor correction, drove 25 miles, heat index >100, engine temp ranged from 186 to 192. Torque converter went to 208 when stopped

Can’t go wrong with a Scan Guage!
Watching the intake temps rise and increase as you move and stop in traffic is wild.

Makes me want a snorkel just to get cooler air more often!
