I'm still learning here: So you're getting new ubolts because you're adding back the overload leaf?

Continuing my skooling here: My shackle flip is arriving in a few days. Why do I need longer u-bolts?

Nick, did you add the 29XL closest to the main spring?

The D29XL add a leaf is identical to the third spring so doesn't matter if you put it in the 3rd or 4th spot in the pack. It will be very obvious, you can't really go wrong.

Personally I wouldn't I think the contrast looks great. But if you're going to do it, have them powder coated not painted and do it a "gun metal" or some other light metal color to keep the contrast.

Hey Nick, when you say you removed the extra overload, are you referring to a leaf that comes in the original Dakar pack? With my shell and loaded with gear I'm creeping on having "bro lean". My choices are bringing in my truck to somewhere with a spring compressor and having my coilovers adjusted, which I believe entails an alignment, or purchasing the D29XL and inserting it into my Dakar pack myself. The leaf is clearly the more economical approach, plus it upgrades my pack. I have the shell as I mentioned, and i always have at least my tools (40#), co2 tank, fire x, a thule box, plus say 100#+ gear when on an outing. How much was the ride affected?

He misspoke. Meant u bolt flip.

Gonna leave them alone. Thanks for the advice!

Here are some pics of leaf ends:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...d-and-adventures.362772/page-15#post-10662723

I put in the d-29 XL Leaf right off the bat when the pack was new I took out the half inch thick leaf and I added a 3 degrees shim the overall height of my pack is equivalent to an unmodified Dakar pack.

I do you think the D 29XL is a good modification to make especially for those with a camper shell and carry weight.

In the last month or so I've contemplated adding that half inch thick Leaf back into the pack. The only issue with that is I'm going to have to deal with the cost of new u-bolts and then the work to put it in plus I have my pinion angle to work to worry about and if I don't get it right then it's a ton of work to redo plus my drive shaft operating angles there's a lot going on and I want to make sure I get it right so I don't have vibrations.

I cannot live with Driveline vibrations.

    Thx.

Thanks for clarifying the ARB add a leaf situation. From your pics it would appear that you have enough thread on your u-bolts to allow the readdition of the overload?
I hear you on the possibility for driveline vibes. I got lucky and have zero. Thanks for pointing that out I will have to consider that. My regular bolts look like ARB allowed just enough thread (I'm assuming by design) to add the 29XL to my full Dakar pack. I may however go with a flip kit, especially as I will have to pull my pack and break it down, including, I'm assuming, a new center bolt. Thanks for all the help, I'm in the process of making a build thread so I won't keep jamming up yours. :):):)

    Hey Nick,

Can't wait to see your bumper! Any plans for your exhaust after you've installed the HC? Not sure what the CA regs are actually.

Yes. the AP ones would work. Welcome.

Thanks! Great question. Right now it's cut after the last hanger. This configuration has worked for me for a long time... However for performance ground clearance purposes it should be trimmed much shorter, right about where the axle is.

I just went to read the California vehicle code for exhaust... regulation is heavy on noise but for some reason I can't seem to find anything that says it it must exit the rear of the vehicle interestingly the height is regulated...

27152. The exhaust gases from a motor vehicle shall not be directed to the side of the vehicle between 2 feet and 11 feet above the ground.

    I'll investigate this further.
