    Good Morning!

    Good on the tool!

No modifications necessary to fit 265/75/R16 in stock spare location.

I like that torque adapter. I will be ordering one soon.
And nice use of the jack handle.

Cornwell Tools has some nice, and reasonably priced, ones that you can buy only specific sizes of, rather than a whole set, most of which you likely would never need if not a pro or maintaining a fleet. I opted for those for higher torque application, like the main eye bolt for my old 1st gen leaf springs on the driver side, which were so close to the gas tank that I could not get the head of my torque wrench in there. I needed to use a 1/2-3/8 adapter also.

I went to the Cornwell Tools website and looked for dealers (trucks) in my area. Called a guy to discuss his route and timing, and was able to meet up with him at one of his routine stops. Had to verify he had them, or he had to order them, can't remember.

I looked into Snap On and Matco, too but IIRC, they either didn't have the sizes I needed, or they were only available in a multimillion dollar set of a dozen or so.

Like the 2nd gen, the 1st gen also has the U-joint bolt check every 30k miles. Which is why I got the 14mm...and then never touched it:anonymous:

But I never pushed that truck very hard off-road anyway.

Thanks. Looking forward to it myself. Unfortunately no news to report.

    Welcome!

    Thanks!
:spy: I sure hope so. :)

Yes. They are better. Drove interstate, felt great. I'm convinced my pinion angle was too negative before.... Working on that right now...

    Thanks

Those are awesome. And from the looks better quality than the one I used.

The main eye bolt I needed to use the 19mm on required 157 lb torque. I wanted something high quality, IYKWIM.

...not DS important, but the skid bolt can be loosened and tightened with either a 14mm or a 9/16 wrench. when I'm not thinking i choose a metric wrench first, always do, but a 14mm craftsman socket will not fit. seems to be about equal play with either the 14mm wrench or the 9/16 wrench, but the 14mm socket is too small in this case.

Cab Mount Chop (CMC) is done.

When I went to a 5-tire rotation, the brand new Toyo rubber was put on the drivers front corner. Tire rubbed mudflap which was pressed up against cab mount.

    The solution is simple.

I ordered the BAMF CMC plates, and did this cut with my angle grinder.

Where you see the white paint in the photo above, that end got cut off, and boxed in by @jeffz0rz of JTA Metal works in El Cajon.

    Jeff did a great job!

I went for an aggressive reduction so I could clear a variety of tire sizes, up to 35" tires if necessary.

This is reference material related to the Tacoma frame I once posted many years ago, importing into build thread...

In the 2009 model Toyota made some improvements to the frame. For your convenience I'll post it here. Enjoy.

Some of the frame structures on the ’09 Toyota Tacoma have been changed to meet MDB* tests for rear collision safety regulations.

    • The cross sections of the upper and lower reinforcements on the kick-up portion of the rear side rail have been formed into a C-shape that prevents deformation of the rear kick-up portion, thus helping prevent deformation of the fuel tank and cabin during a rear collision.

    • A closed section structure is used for the No. 6 cross member, which prevents deformation of the crossmember, thus helping prevent forward displacement of the fuel tank during a rear collision. (B-B crosssection)

    • Stoppers have been added to the upper surface of the sides rail of the long wheelbase on Double Cab to reduce the relative displacement between the vehicle body and the frame, thus helping prevent deformation of the fuel tank.

Rear frame plates have been installed; rear is boxed in.

Frame plates add strength, stiffen the frame, and help stop torsional twisting.

I am an opportunist, and having the rear end exposed, I again tapped Jeff @jeffz0rz , Owner and Operator of JTA Metal Works in El Cajon for help.

He offers CNC cut frame plates for 2nd gen trucks. Here is the discussion thread on it.

    Here is the description:

I needed to retain the stock spare tire carrier cross member, and the bed had to stay on the for the work. I meticulously cleaned the frame, and removed my air-line, and all the frame wiring harness clips in advance, to get everything out of Jeff's way.

Jeff divided the plates into 3rds and burned them in. Jeff did a great job welding and painting. Any over-spray paint you seen in the photos is mine.

    Duuuuuuuude.

I'm all over this when it's time to relocate my rear shocks. I'm gonna go full OCD: plate the outside and box the inside. I think that would more than adequately deal with one of the very few weak spots on these trucks, especially on 1st Gens like mine.

    Nice work, Jeff and Nick!
