Anything is better than the bungee cord I used when I went to Overland Expo East, granted there was no offroading.

Where did you get your U bolts that you used to attach the quick fists? I'm trying to find some like that and i can't find any that are that small.

 my google skills got me there right after I posted. You mounted yours to round tube, I need square U bolts. Thats probably why I'm not finding anything.

    Thank you!

Ah, no worries. Welcome. If I had square tubing, I'd probably just drill and put a bolt thru. Easier than adapting to round bars.

I'm trying to avoid putting any holes in it, I don't want to weaken the cross bars.

I'm sure I can figure another way to get the quick fists on there.

I got the ubolts for superstrut/unistrut from HD/Lowes. They fit over my bed bars.

A good hardware store or trailer supply store will have many different sizes. Marine supply too, for attaching crap to boat trailer frames.

Ace has a large selection of them, just not small enough for my needs. The bars on my rack are 1" square. I haven't been able to find any square u bolts under ~1.5". Guess I just need to look harder.

    Hey Nick,
Can't wait for your full/comprehensive writeup and pictorial on your BF HC bumper. A couple of special photo requests?
    - Side view showing the canted tire?
    - Side view showing the shortened bumper wings?
    - View of the extra spindle cage protecting the exposed spindle?

    Thanks!

A quick note - those of you looking for u-bolts and rivnuts and tools, look at McMaster-Carr. They have all sorts of hard to find parts, tools, etc. They are not necessarily the least expensive, but they have what most other places do not.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled build... ;)

    Sure, in time.

I can't believe how much work the bumper project has been, it's like death by a thousand cuts for me.

In addition to everything I've done thus far, I still have to:
    • Install bedside supports,
    • Figure out what to do with fender liner,
    • Attach lic plate holder,
    • Attach lic plate,
    • Reinstall 7-pin tow plug thing,
    • Reinstall lic plate lights,
    • Pickup more bolts from Toyota,
    • Properly align bumper to frame,
    • Thoroughly clean spindle cage,
    • Put greasy bearing in gate,
    • drive seal into spindle cage,
    • thoroughly clean spindle,
    • Attach gate,
    • Install top bearing, washer, nut, adjust torque accordingly,
    • Install spindle cage lid,
    • Install spring loaded gate lock pin thing,
    • Install stop plate for lock pin to bumper,
    • Attach latch retention screw to bumper,
    • Attach table hinges, cables, stops, latch, table itself,
    • Attach tire carrier,
    • Attach spare tire,
    • Attach hi-lift mounts screws,
    • Attach / check for proper fitment for jerry can holder
    • Attach air hose and run along frame to bumper and secure somewhere.
Then I got to plan a shake down on a local trail.

I am jealous of those than get it all done in 2-hours. lol

Not looking forward to the stupid time change either... That's not going to help work-on-truck projects. :(

They are a great source for hardware. That's where I found my rivnuts for plastics when attaching l-track to the forward bed walls. I think Pelfreybilt uses them too for their supplier of fasteners.
