I was thinking of revolving shocks for the additional unsprung weight. That's like an extra wheel without a tire hanging on the axle. Never thought of that until just now for some reason. But probably not a big deal if you just stay out of racing.

    EDIT *REVALVING

    GOSH!

Exciting news on my front: changed my oil. Might go crazy and change both my intake and cabin filters, too.

That is a nice piece. Hmm mine has a few nice gouges. So far been lucky. Will add that to the growing wish list.

Looking forward to the fall/winter trips. Looks like I'm going to have to start a thread for my trips.... and maybe build stuff.

Yes one day I'll have revolving shocks. Just kidding. I'm going to leave suspension alone, hopefully forever. Yeah unsprung weight is the devil when it comes to vehicle handling performance. I've decided to seriously calm down in the Mojave, so no more go-fast in my Tacoma. :D

    :fistbump: That's what it's all about! :D

Yeah I'm stoked. Always wanted one, and in a moment of weakness I ordered it last year. I had no idea it would take a year to be made and shipped. :ballchain:

Here is a more normal view of the diff armor, pic by @Glueman in his post here. :hattip:

    I'll sub it! :)

I might get to go out in December. This month is booked solid :ballchain: :anonymous: :boom:

The weight...and the wait...IME are worth the remote travel peace of mind knowing you're protected over the rough stuff.

That's a really nice skid...have to see if they source a Gen 1 version.

    EDIT: and they do...oh man...>>>>http://bayareametalfab.3dcartstores.com/Rear-Diff-Skid-955-to-04-E-locking-diff_p_80.html

Thanks for this. Did mine today and it saved a lot of cussing bleeding and sweating!! great write up!!

I opted to bleed the brake lines while I was in there working. A long hose from the brake bleeder valve to the brake pedal makes this a breeze when doing it without a helper. I used a clear hose which let me see when I got all the air bubbles out. I had to use vice grips on all but one of the brake lines.

Welcome. Glad you got some use out of it. That's a smart way to do it solo. I hate flare nuts and brake lines in general. I still have to do my fronts at some point. :annoyed:

This will be on my doorstep in a week :p

Last week I asked JLee in his thread if he had any in stock and ready to ship. He said they were sold out.

I ordered anyway, thinking I’d get it in a few months or so. :fingerscrossed:

I got a shipping notice that it will arrive on the 5th. ;)

Thank you for all the hard work and time you put into your blog. I am inspired to say the least. I like your statement that a truck is a means to an end. Its important to remember.

Welcome! I enjoyed all the work I put into the truck. But it really is just a means to an end. We can get out there whenever we want!

My kids wanted to go out, and being off work I said sure, grabbed the keys and made some pack lunches and we were off! It was 120 miles round trip full day of fun!

I've enjoyed reading through a bit of your thread here over the last year as Andy pointed me in this direction. So many around here are hung up on alot of the "rock crawling" type setups i guess everyone has to have King or Icon or your truck just isn't built rt. As it's mainly just my wife and I now we are trying to learn more and just get out and explore. I have built what would be considered a very mild setup around here but it takes us and our little micro camper where we want to go and we have fun. Our plans are to have the camper modified enough by this summer to be able to go completely off grid for at least a week. I've enjoyed this so far it's been both educational and entertaining. Keep up the good work, safe travels, and merry Christmas

Nice shot! A setup rig with a bit of prep lets us go spontaneously like that! Happy holidays and new year of more trips.
