Love this mod. I want to do a cheap version of a new tailgate skin and maybe add something directly over my the original skin. Any recommendations? I just want something flat to easier use as a table when camping

That is cool. My first gen had drink holders or at least flat round spots to put them. Why the F**k they left that out of the 2nd's is beyond me

Not really. I'd buy the Relentless skin. Whatever I paid for it has been worth it for me. Strong, lightweight, and fit perfectly. The carpet I put on it has been holding up great and the outer edges act as a secondary dust barrier.

Really happy with how it all turned out.

If you're able to innovate something else, my hats off to ya!

I like the Mobtown. It has small ridges to keep stuff from rolling away, but not big enough to feel while sitting on it. Just my 2 cents. However, relentless is more local. Both good guys/companies by all accounts.

Got the bajarack installed! Thanks for the tips everything went smoothly. Is it normal for the rack to be this close to the body? When I stand in the middle it's touching. I won't be putting that much weight in the middle often, but it's still alarming.

If your standing on the rack more or less in the middle you are applying a 'point load'. When you load it with stuff, it should be evenly loaded over the rack surface depending on the individual load densities. Not going to be a problem. You could also contact the manufacture for quantified answers.

That's what I figured. Just wondering if everyone's is that close. I really do love the low profile design on this rack. Can't wait to put it to use!

I had this problem in 2012, I submitted photos to bajaRack. They made me taller brackets. In my opinion the rack should clear the roof by 1/2". Because the rack will deflect when loaded and touching the roof is unacceptable, IMO. Good luck!

    Tacoma exhaust crossover reroute

    Finally got this done.

Extremely pleased with the work. Work was done by El Cajon Exhaust & AC, Jimmy and Ross. I showed them @DVexile 's "Diet Taco" build thread here: Exhaust Crossover Reroute and requested that they duplicate that. It took 2-hours, and my cost was $200 out the door. Very happy.

I also got this put on the front:

I had to spend some time grinding about .25" off two holes (middle ones) to get proper alignment. I wasn't sure it was going to work, but I finally got it.

I still have the mid, xfer case, and the gas tank one to install. :playball: Just need more time.

Hi Rodney. I eyeballed it yesterday and I think I can open the Fumoto valve from below using the circle opening in the skid with no problem, might use a skinny object like a 90* needle nose pliers. I didn't look to see if I can reach in from the side which would be even easier. Maybe tonight I'll crawl under and take a better look :turtleride:

I haven't been keeping up with this thread since last summer. Just now completing a marathon read! It did my heart good to see you went with the same skids I installed in August. You'll be pleased.

Looks great, I’ll get a picture of the heat shield we made for the actuator on the back. It’s probably overkill but I figured it would be cheaper than replacing the unit.

The hole in the skid is of sufficient size to drain the oil with very little splash onto the upper side of the skid.

Now that I have a Fumoto valve, changes are a snap. (I have the valve with the short nipple, which attaches to a piece of hose.)

I've done 3 oil changes since the Pelfreybilt aluminum IFS skid went on. 14mm shallow well socket, 2" extention, and a rachet.....99% of the oilfinds It's way through the hole and into the drain pan....

Yes I worry too much too. Something that's like a curse at times. I worry about stuff that people haven't even thought of yet. I sometimes have to remind myself that on a long enough timeline, everything, absolutely everything is temporary. :)

Thanks!!! I'm quite excited to have proper underbelly protection. I took too many risks over the years and now it'll be nice to not worry.

:hattip: Thank you. I'm interested. I reread a portion of your build the other day and I was again impressed with your mudflaps that you put on your rig. It reminded me that I still have to do mine.

So @G.T. above you. He really smart dude. Once said, something like: in Life you try to have money and time. Usually you get one but not the other. The trick is to find a way to have both at the same time. :D
;) I guess you could say I have some money, but ran out of time. :annoyed:

Why not just wrap that section in header wrap. I replaced the y-pipe on my FJ with a Doug Thorley unit because my stock one literally rusted through the O2 sensor bung and shot the sensor out while driving. Anyways the new y-pipe routes just like that and gets much closer to the tcase & drive shaft ujoints. Read a few reports where people claimed the proximity to the ujoints dried them out so I triple layered header wrap over the y-pipe and you can nearly touch it at operating temp. I figure that's even better than before.

Not sure about longevity of it but for maybe $40 after buying extra steel ties and a little tool to tighten them I figure it's much easier than fabbing up a new heat shield.
