    Hey @Crom,

    I just want to thank you for the meticulous write-ups that you have contributed to this forum over the years. I've been digging through this forum trying to gather as much information as possible over the last few months before finally pulling the trigger on some suspension components. Without this thread, and countless others that you have contributed to it would have been a complete nightmare trying to determine exactly what setup I wanted to go with. In the end, I ended up ordering almost an identical setup to yours. Which I think I'll be very happy with.

    Bilstein 6112's (both set @ 4th clip, with 1/4" driver spacer), JBA UCA's, Wheelers SuperBumps front and rear with HD OME Dakars w/ Bilstein B110 rear shocks and Wheelers u-bolt flip kit.

    I know you had some issues with the earlier versions of JBAs UCAs, but reading through some older posts it seems like they have amazing customer support to back their product and I believe they are on their 7th version so I'm hoping all the bugs have been sorted out. The new Dakars also come with isolators already installed so hopefully no issues with squeaks. :fingerscrossed:

    I've added 3* axles shims, and also a 3/8" spacer on the rear bump stops till I can get the time to properly measure to ensure no issues with the shocks/bump height.

    Here's a pic of my truck with everything installed. Goes in for an alignment tomorrow, and hits the dirt for the first time next weekend. 33's are next on the agenda list.

    Welcome! :) I think you'll love the new suspension. It makes the adventures on and off road so much more enjoyable. Truck looks great! Our rigs look so similar, but you got the limo version. :D How is your ARE cap holding up?

    The ARE cap is holding up pretty well. The ARE MX Series really is the center piece of my truck. It is my favourite mod to date. Since mines the limo version we sleep in the back with a bed platform. The extra headroom is nice and I love the sliding windoors. The back glass on the cap is the only thing that shows some abuse over the years cause it shakes a tiny bit within the canopy frame when offroad. Ive had to replace some of the factory weather stripping around the back hatch opening. Ive also added a relentless fab tailgate skin/cap and the ARE back glass hatch sits a lot more flush and firm on that then before.

    • Bought in November 2017.
    • Picked up from factory in February 2018.
    • Aged to perfection the dark and cool climate of my garage until October 2018.

    Mid and trans skid test fit fine. I did have to clearance a few inches of the rear skid with saw, because of custom exhaust y-pipe issue. Not a big deal.

    Then I realized the fucking 17/32" drill bit shank I bought for drilling the frame would not fit in my drill chuck. :frusty: I will have to make do with a 1/2" drill bit.

    Unfortunately, I ran out of time on the weekend so I'll have to wrap up another day in near future.

    Felt good to give the truck some attention. Prior to test fitting skids, I cleaned and painted like I usually do.

    I have the same set of skids - I really like them.

    One note - I picked up longer transmission mount bolts than were sent with the skids. When both the mid and xfer skid were installed, I didn't have enough of the bolt extending past the nut. Something to watch for - though, your truck may be different.

    Also, I wipe the skids with CRC 6-56 when I install them. An idea I picked up from another TW member, the lubricant acts as a metal protectant.

    Getting the exhaust reroute this week. I’ll probably bring the skid in so they can make sure it’s compatible. What portion of the skid caused an issue?

    I’ve had the 3rd Pelfrey skid of the same vintage sitting on the garage floor for months. The other two were installed long ago.

    Just checked my 17/32 drill bit, the drill end is 17/32 but the chuck is 1/2 so it fits. Got lucky on that one. Not looking forward to drilling the frame.

    It isn't difficult. Start with a 1/8" bit, and work your way up from there. Drill 3 or 4 holes, working up to 17/32". Use cutting fluid if you have it - if not, it's OK to drill dry.

    Don't forget to paint the raw metal inside the hole to prevent (OK, delay) rust.

    Yes, I've seen great youtube videos on vertical drilling with a jack. But when needing to drill horizontally I think we are stuck with just muscle... :muscleflexing:

    Same here, one oil change done since mounting the IFS and was not too bad.ironically I did spill some oil in the engine bay when changing the filter which really upset me considering I've done so many since I've owned the truck and never spilled there. :(



    that was actually my first thought but I didn't go that route because I wasn't sure I could shave enough metal off evenly on the shank.

    I might just buy a drill that has a half inch Chuck.

    Do yourself a favor and get a corded drill with a 1/2” chuck. They’re invaluable for drilling metal. I bought one specifically for use in my tube notcher and paid under $50 for it. Thing is still running like a champ. I don’t use it often, but when I do it goes hard and all day (gigiddy). Just saw Lowes has a porter cable version on sale for $49. I’d recommend that one for you. PC motors are great.

    The hammer function is for drilling masonry. Also a good tool to have around the house.
