I greased the UCA's using the loosen bolt and zerk method. Worked.

I took it a step further, and used my needle attachment to grease between bush and washer. This worked excellent.

Nick, tell me a bit more about your Megamat "failure," and fix. As an owner myself, I'd like to be aware of what to look out for... esp. given it's reasonable price.

Sure. Not so much a gear failure as it was a failure of the person doing tent breakdown (ahem *wife*)

She accidentally removed the silicone one way flap device from the deflate port when vacuuming out the air on our last trip in October. I forgot to reinstall it upon returning home. Then subsequently misplaced it over the coming months.

I reached out to Exped for support. I explained the situation to them and they sent me replacement parts, no questions asked! The mats have 5-year warranty. Out mats were older than that but they didn't seem to mind. They also replaced my stuff sacks. One was 50% destroyed and the other one, the stitching was just starting to let go.

Exped is 5-star show for customer support. Very pleased.

Here is the support video that shows how to reinstall.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H82RXYfh4gU

Naturally, I found the original part when I cleaned my hideous mess of a work-bench a few weeks after making the repair. This way I have an extra for when the cycle repeats itself.

I do carry a patch kit that has rubber cement and some OE type surface material. I've also patched others' air mattresses with Gorilla tape / duck tape.

We frequent Anza-Borrego and Cholla is plentiful. I've never had issues with any of my mats, but my colleagues have. :notsure:

I tried to repair a concentric that was otherwise okay, but I misunderstood what I was seeing and worked in haste.

This concentric consists of a cam plate that has a knurled tube pressed into it at the factory, so it's like one piece. It would be a hell of a lot stronger if it was machined as one piece, but it's not, two pressed together.

But what sucks is that the tube is not pressed all the way into the plate!! There is a deliberate space in there!!

Having destroyed the passenger side cam 3 years ago due to Mojave-fast driving, I looked at this one and thought it was separating too, so I put it in a bench vice and proceeded to press it. I pressed too far and ultimately ruined it.

The a replacement factory part is shown for comparison.

    Don't do what I did. :D :D

Ruined Cam - No space between tube and cam plate (see red grease)

Shortened Cam next to factory new

See the space in there? It's supposed to be there.

The knurling on the tube is visible. This is normal.

This is a Katana sword. I don't know about your stealership, but mine has this sword in a glass case in the showrooom from an award they won from Japan. When I see it, I want to take it from the case and chop something. I don't think they would take kindly to me using it. but it seems like it sure would be fun!!!

Historically, katana were one of the traditionally made Japanese swords that were used by the samurai of ancient and feudal Japan. The katana is characterized by its distinctive appearance: a curved, single-edged blade with a circular or squared guard and long grip to accommodate two hands -wikipedia

Thanks for the well wishes. I've been busy beyond belief. We were scheduled to do another trip, but was thwarted by severe kid illness the week prior, and I could not finish the truck maintenance in time. Immediately after this, we had an unexpected death in the family. I had to go to work for the estate and get shit handled.

Lots and lots of other happenings going on as well at home, and the season ends with back-to school for kids on Monday.

I manged to finished rebuilding the front end for the DRIVER side before all this happened.

The truck will continue to live on jack stands until higher-priority tasks pass.

I'll try to pop in as I'm able.
