Could you have possibly touched the glass portion of the lamp during installation? The other possibility is the painting process to add caps. Real easy to cause an issue there.

I did my best to not touch the bulbs but may have slightly. I did clean the lamp after with isopropanol just in case. Does 180* sound about right with just one working?

My 65w fogs run around 205* (though I did not record ambient temp). Your HIRs filter the IR to overdrive the bulb so they assembly should run cooler. The number seems right.

Thanks for the reply crash. I ordered another pair on Amazon for $15.00 that will arrive Wednesday but in my impatience I went to my local auto parts store to get some today. When they said it will be $53.xx I came home empty handed.

This looks like the product we should be using:
    http://www.graphitestore.com/quartz...ass-and-quartz?custcol_size=3&custcol_color=4

I love the internet where you can get commercial grade materials as a consumer with just a few clicks. The high temp paint has VOCs which are not good for a bulb or bulb housing. The coating does require curing though, which I have ideas on how to do. But ultimately this mod is ridiculously over powered and not street friendly despite having the OEM beam pattern, so it may not be worth the trouble to glare cap if you are not running it with oncoming traffic.

I’ve seen both, ones that don’t have the coating and others that do. None of the bulbs use the sphere shape anymore. If you hold an HIR bulb up to the light you can see a very light translucent iridescent coating on the glass if it is coated. The reflective coating gives the bulb the extra output without hurting life or increasing power. You can build an equally high output bulb without the coating, but it will need to be done with increased power or decreased life, or both.

I just looked up on powerbulbs.com, and saw they have some HIR2 lights with a 9012 fitment.

These would work for 05-11 Tacos right?

    https://www.powerbulbs.com/us/product/piaa-hyper-arros-hir2-9012

They are 55W instead of the 65W for the Ultimate upgrade. Would these work as a middle ground for upgrading the stock, but not blinding, and not requiring a harness upgrade?

No, the 9012s will not be compatible. You need 9005s or 9011s for the H10 socket. Neither require a harness upgrade, the harness just provides additional performance. Note that these are exceptionally bright, the OEM fogs do a poor job of glare control so with the massively increased output these will cause increased glare.

Thanks for clarifying. I thought I read somewhere in the thread that 9011 and 9012 are interchangeable. Guess not, I'll keep looking.

Painting the tips will help control glare from what I understand, so I'll be sure to do that with any higher output bulb in my OEM fog assembly.

Crash, what are your thoughts on PIAA bulbs? Looking around for capped yellow 9005s I found they have a new one out. It looks spendy for 9005, but the Nokyas are un capped.

Definitely would not recommend PIAA. Way overpriced for what you get. Are you sure you are looking at their 9005s? Much of their marketing intermixes the 9005 with 9006 (capped) images. I've searched extensively for capped bulbs, fact is there are no capped high beam bulbs, it is a DIY process.

@crashnburn80 What are your recommendations on the best fog light bulbs to run with the stock harness (make/model) that are already capped? Mine haven't been replaced in almost 11 years so its time...

Do you have an 05-11 as covered by this thread? If so, there are no viable plug and play bulb upgrades. H10 is a low power and low performance bulb. Prior to viable performant selective yellow LED SAE fog assemblies I experimented with capping my own bulbs and boosting output to the max. That is now obsolete. Brands like Diode Dynamics, Morimoto and Rigid have come out with replacement selective yellow LED fogs that will be higher in output intensity, while having better SAE cut offs and being a better selective yellow color temp.

If you have a 2012 as listed in your profile, this is the wrong thread. For the 12-15 H11 Fogs, the recommended bulb upgrade is the Tungsram Platinums. They will be an incremental improvement, but also relatively inexpensive. For a drastic improvement, you should also look at swapping to a dedicated SAE Fog LED assembly.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-led-sae-j583-fog-pod-fog-light-review.554813/

Many fogs covered below. Diode Dynamics Max selective yellow linked at the top is the recommended highest performing lamp. It runs hot enough to melt snow. If snow is not a concern then the Diode Dynamics Elite or Sport is recommended. Elites might only fit 2012+ trucks.
