As for the alternator thing and "ITS GOING TO GO OUT" doesnt make sense theres no reason that for sure "ITS GOING TO GO OUT" his looked like it has been covered in mud and grass many times and was filled with crap. It seems to me the water in the engine bay was just the icing on the cake for him. theres no guarantee thats what cause the other individuals alternator to go out (not saying it didnt) but i think there was other circumstances (such as a birds nest of grass/mud located in the vents/windings) lol

^That's what I'm doing right now.

Today was quite productive...changed/replaced the following.
    -Engine Oil
    -Engine Air Filter
    -Power Steering Fluid (flushed system)
    -Front Diff Fluid

Carpet is all dry and I'm going to have a friend who owns a carpet cleaning business give it a go over the weekend when he has time. I also brought the truck to a self service car wash place so I could blast a lot of the truck clean and get most of the dirt out of the radiator.

Tomorrow I tackle the spark plugs, MAF sensor, and throttle body. The headlights will also be coming out. The ONLY thing I broke (so far) during this whole ordeal is my right turn signal. When I dismantle the headlights I'll be doing the black housing mod too. Might as well as long as I'm in there.

Pulled the headlights about an hour ago. That 4th bolt can be accessed by pulling the fog lights. I think this is likely easier/less of a pain than going through the fender well. Plus, my fender wells were covered in mud so yeah...

I poured about half a gallon of water out of my headlights (combined) and will be doing the black headlight mod either tonight or tomorrow.

Just finished gapping 6 new spark plugs too. Those will go in soon as well.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Gone through 2 starters and one alternator with my Jeep, it happens!
OP, your lucky, it coulda been a lot worse! Glad to see you scraped by without terminal damage. When I was just a little kid my dad took me hunting with some buddies and he let one of them drive his old 72 Bronco to go retrieve a kill, well the dumbass thought it would be quicker to drive across a frozen river and broke through the ice! Luckily for him the little Bronco did not weigh a lot and the nose just got submerged and was able to be winched out of there. Wish there was pics from that but that was back before cell phone days, and my dad never carried cameras out hunting and I was too young to really give a damn lol, nice pics you got though. Always love seeing what these pickups are capable of doing!

The truck was certainly a lot cleaner then. We totally need to do another one of those meets. That was a bad ass meet!

And for those who said my starter might end up going bad...I think you might be right. I noticed it had a BRIEF hesitation before it would turn yesterday. But as soon as it cranked it cranked hard and started right up.

Fast forward to today and it's taking about a second before it cranks. Still cranks hard and fires right up once it turns though. I'm thinking that internally the motor contacts are going bad. Does that sound like it's the case?

How do I stop it? What can I do?

Today's progress was quite good; much like yesterday. I started by removing the headlights so I could drain and paint them. As I said before, I decided against removing the fender well to access the 4th bolt. I found that removing the fog light was easier. I'll open those up tomorrow.

I started with stuff under the hood by dismantling most of the upper intake system and manifold. I wanted to clean the throttle body, filter housing and check the intake portion in the fender well. I also had to take a lot of this off because I needed to get to the spark plugs so I could replace those too. If you check out the last two pictures it was clear that the intake was submerged. Doesn't look like any of the water/mud got past the filter though. The throttle body showed no signs that it got any and the manifold before the throttle body didn't have any in it.

(thanks chris4x4 for the spark plug write up)

I'd just rinse everything else with clean water with engine off.
