I think the going rate is 4-500 + the swapped hood.

for me, i don't want a non-functional looky-loo hood that causes crazy glare when the sunlight hits it. I'd rather just forego the looks personally. Like having Twin tip exhaust on a single exhaust system. whats the point

Would you be able to do the trade tomorrow morning? I’m up in Redding, CA so it’s about 3 1/2 hour drive one way for me.

Well that makes sense. I did not know that glare was so bad. well I guess ill give it a shot then since I am looking for a black cooped hood which according to you guys would "glare really bad" since it black and reflects the best.

I need to make little business cards that say I have a perfect non glaring hood that I'm willing to trade for their glaring hoods and leave them on the windows of all the quicksand sport tacos I see.

I found someone to swap with me. Even trade, but I paid the dealer to do the swap. Those unicorns are out there.

If memory serves me, it was about $140 per truck, so $280 total. But to be honest, it was money well spent. Last thing I'd want to do is risk jacking up my truck or someone else's. I just went and grabbed some breakfast with dude while we waited.

Have you never been to a dealership before? It's par for the course. Actually, it's pretty standard for anytime you're not doing the work yourself (local mechanics can be crooks too).

The way I looked at it, it was less than $300 to do the swap (since the original owner didn't want cash in return), which was a steal. The original hood owner either wanted me to pay him, or pay the dealer to do the swap. I took the route that came with a warranty of workmanship.

is it a difficult enough task, swapping a hood, that one would wanna take it to a dealer to do? I'm just asking 'cause i've rebuilt engines, transmissions, built whole model a roadsters, so I kinda planned on doing this swap myself. Is there something i don't know that makes this swap a dealer thing? i got kinda leery of it after reading the dealer being sought for this......enlighten a brother! thanks guys!

It's just a couple bolts. The hood is kinda heavy but there's two of you there so shouldn't be a problem.

okay cool- that's what i thought. I looked at it and was puzzled as to why i'd pay someone 140 to do it for me. I get the warranty bit, but seeing as how i'm going to modify the shit out of this truck it's kinda a mute point

I guess if you're unsure about it then it's better to be safe. But the hood swap is fairly simple

Not difficult at all. Some heavy lifting, but not technical. I didn't forgo the install based on difficulty. I had the dealer do the work for liability sake. I don't like working on a perfect strangers truck. What if the hood gets dropped? What if it's dropped on the truck fender? It's one thing when it's your truck and parts. It's a whole different situation when it's someone else's .

The deal the other member gave me was to either pay him $300 for the hood (his help provided) or pay the dealer $280 to do it. I chose the dealer and sat back and relaxed.

i totally get that! i guess if someone dorked my truck up doing a swap i'd just level the situation and ding their truck and we could both file insurance claims and get it fixed hahahaha
oh man....i think when i do it i'm gonna bring a couple of my old pendleton thick wool blankets and cover the surrounding areas. that way is something slips its all good
