Back from the dead! Sorry to bail on the updates for so long. Honestly I haven't had too much to report on, until today. This is such a boring truck....Nothing ever breaks. :)

    *Still on the original motor/trans*

So I hit 470,000 on the way to the Toyota dealership today. I took the truck in for a frame assessment. Honestly it's not all that bad, but they decided to go ahead and replace it for me due to a bit of rot. They went ahead and submitted the pictures to Toyota and said it'll be a month or two before the frame and all the parts are in for it. So the 470k truck is about a major refresh.

While they have it I figure I'll have them replace the fuel pump and sending unit since.... Well how much longer can this pump last?? Haha

    Updates on the truck itself.

Interior: A few months ago, the driver seat finally got worn out at the seam from sliding in and out. I just put some covers on for now that look pretty much identical to stock. A couple of instrument lights have burnt out by the climate controls.

Exterior: I have to clean up the headlights every few months due to yellowing. The grille facia/cover tabs broke off recently so I had to remove that piece . ( These were all aftermarket parks due to hitting the deer years ago).

Mechanical: Since the last update I think the only things I've done is change the cats, one coil, the valve cover gasket, and the water bypass pipe. (aside from oil/filters/plugs) I think my upstream 02 is out now. Lately it's randomly a bit sluggish and throws a P0420, also my elm obd2 scanner doesn't read anything from that sensor.

That's the latest! Sorry for the radio silence!

Congrats! I am hoping my truck lasts this long, or at least long enough to give to my son when he turns 16 in 9 years! FWIW I saw something on youtube about running a gallon of pure lacquer thinner into a half tank of gas to clean the cat and possibly clear the P0420 code. Supposedly the cat will cause a code even at a 5% loss of efficiency, and the thinner may blow some of the crap out of there? Anyone have any experience with this? Also, did your trans hum stop or it just never got worse?

Thanks! Right on, my son has 10 years to wait for mine so hopefully it'll make it there too!

I haven't tried the lacquer thinner in the gas yet, but I'm definitely going to look into it. It seems like it's probably that 02 sensor since I'm not getting signal from it on my reader, but the sensors are a lot more expensive than a gallon of thinner!

As far as the transmission hum, it's not there anymore. I'm not really sure what caused it either. It's funny, any time my dad drives my truck, or someone rides with me, they can't believe how many miles are on it. It seriously drives like new.

It was more of a slow leak that I procrastinated on fixing for like a year or more. Probably somewhere in the high 300's it started leaking. Then I finally set aside a day and fixed it. It was a slight pain to change it iirc. Looking back at emails from Toyota of cool springs ( got the parts there), I fixed it in Jan of 06 so about 415-420k most likely.

Thanks for taking time to reply and look up the info. I've got 100+ so is I can get 300 more B 4 I have 2 change the water bypass pipe that would be fine with me. I've read the write up and it looks like a PITA. Thanks again.

No problem! Yeah if I remember correctly I started it late afternoon and ended up having to finish it the next morning because I had to buy a gasket. It is just in an annoying location. They should've used the metal pipe to begin with instead of the plastic.

Necropost, I know, but this is some good stuff. @ripewithdecay, is your truck still alive?

Hit 500k today! Still going strong! I had to replace the ac compressor a couple months ago, but other than that it is still my daily work driver and drives like a champ.
