Exactly. Diesels typically run for 200,000+ miles easy because they are built a hell of a lot tougher to handle the extra pressure and heat from the diesel. If you built a gasoline engine that tough it would likely last just as long possibly longer.

That is my point. If the engine is designed for more torque, it can handle it just as well.

So, other than simply having more parts, I do not see why the V6 will not run as long as the 4-cylinder.

Actually that would be 100 parts, but your point is valid:D

Yes but i have my doubts that the V6 is built any stronger than the I4... Hell the rear diff we have under these is pretty much the same one they have been using since 1979. There's a reason why 2nd gens have so many rear diff problems. That diff was designed for a ~3500lb Toyota pickup that was pushing 140hp on a good day. Now we have a 236hp motor on a 5000lb vehicle and expect the same setup to hold?... Well it doesn't very well... Ask me and at least 100+ more members on here how we know...

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe he has Tire Rack credit for deep discounts or something. :)

I really hope that what ever company the OP works for pays for all maintenance and repairs and fuel.

Agreed....it as nothing to do with the # of parts. It's just that the 2.7L engines are historically an awesome design that run forever. Just as is the case with the Ford 4.6L (v8), historically an amazing engine that will run forever.

    Thanks yo!

I just take mine to a shop locally. I have yet to change it myself, but I think I may try to next time.

I'm actually considered self employed, so it's not really a company vehicle. However, when tax time comes around those 70k+ miles equal a pretty great write off. Also I do get new tires once a year at least. I've never used tire rack though, just always local tire shops. I need to get some freaking sponsors. Discounts on tires and oil would be pretty nice. :)

Sweet thanks for the advice. How much does it usually cost to have done at a local shop?

You could call a few and ask, or look up prices of local places that have a website online.

It is usually around 120 where I live. I'm not sure if that's a good price or not though. Places like Castrol express or Jiffy won't service mine. Some places may do more or less too. Like one place dropped the pan and put on a new filter and gasket and inspected things for wear. Whereas another place just did the fluid.

What about the RPM of the engine? The v6's auto have very low RPM all the time except in high speed. And the lower is your RPM, the better theengine will last?

This thread already gives me hope about my 4-banger. I plan on keeping my taco until it dies literally. I do a lot of driving so I hope I do get as far as you do ;) I'll be there in about 10 years haha.

As for the part failure, I believe the 4-banger has been time-tested and the design works. Look back at how many 4-bangers in the past that Toyota has made. Anything that's been around that long will have a mature-design and it will just work mentality.

As for the high RPM's, as long as you don't drive close to the red line or even red line it, you should be fine, if you take care of the maintenance every so often. If you are pushing your truck for long extended periods of time, then obviously you will see problems and wear but if you do it once and a while you should be fine.

haha that's hilarious. It's funny because I've been out of town on vacation a lot lately so I've missed out on quite a bit of mileage. I can't help but thinking, man I'd already be at like 402k. As is I'm at 398055. Should only take another couple weeks tops.

Just a few little things. It's my DD

How funny! (Sure not for you) Can't wait to see a million. I had a 89 4x4 with 320,000 when I sold it. My father and I put them all on it. GREAT trucks can't beat a Yota!
