Just saw something interesting at Wikipedia... I tried to look up Instant Pot, no go, so I looked up slow cooker instead, maybe the page would have some kind of Instant Pot info. Nope, but I read something about certain types of beans being unsafe to put directly into slow cooker without boiling first. Thought I'd share in case I can save a life, what the hell. :D

    Poisoning concerns
Raw kidney beans, and, to a lesser extent, some other such beans as broad beans or fava beans, contain the toxin phytohemagglutinin. Boiling destroys this toxin, but the far lower temperature of a slow cooker does not. This means that dry beans must be boiled at 100 °C (212 °F) for at least 30 minutes prior to slow cooking,[10] or, alternatively, they must be soaked in water overnight, after which the water must be discarded, and the beans must then be boiled for at least 10 minutes. Even a few beans can be toxic, and beans can be as much as five times more toxic if cooked at 80 °C (176 °F) than if eaten raw,[11] so adequate pre-boiling is vital, and indeed crucial, to avoid phytohemagglutinin poisoning.

Not sure if I would have trusted a GenX financial consultants web page for a crock pot recipe , but I saved it a long time ago. Then, before I had my smoker, someone gave me a pork butt and I remembered I had saved this. Used it for a camping gathering, everyone thought it was very good. I do like pork loin in the smoker better but this did come out nice.

I did use Chris and Pitts BBQ sauce - only sauce I will use that is not home made.

My BIL is always "I can eat anything" - got him some for his birthday, wanted the video. Apparently, he chomped down and just about lost it, his wife dropped the phone so we missed it. She later told us he drank a lot of milk and he has never done that before. Still hasn't called to thank me.

LOL I have never seen that movie but need to sometime. Hunt pheasants in SD with some other retired Navy guys each year and the "neighbors" are from Wi. and bring pasties every year. Please pass the ketchup.

I recently have gone to smoked paprika for anything that calls for paprika. Of course for the smoker too.

As far South as NC most people I know put at least some sugar in their cornbread. I do too. But you got to bake it in cast iron.

Still hot and fell apart. Didn't butter it with bacon grease but did coat the pan in bacon grease before I poured everything in. And after cooking my homemade bacon cooked the home fries and eggs in bacon grease. More bacon...

I literally just got off the phone with the military exchange trying to order the 6 qt. IP-DUO Instant Pot but their ordering system is down. Been researching for a week now and that is the one I came up with. For me. A good breakdown of the models is here.

Have 2 crock pots now but the more I read about the IP the more I want to try one. But the majority of my cooking is still done on the grills or smoker :anonymous: I am also trying to place an order for the All-Clad 6 qt. pasta cooker to use for making stock for soup and stews. Separating by pouring in another bowl in the sink through a strainer is getting old and has for many years. So do a variety of cooking methods and mix things up.

We just bought the AllClad 6 qt pasta pot. No review to offer. It’s still boxed waiting on our new (wherever that is) home.

We are looking to pick up an InstaPot on BlackFriday this year. Hopefully a couple decent deals. Been stalking some recipe's for them, will be nice for those days we forget to take something out or decide what we originally wanted no longer sounds good.

I have the 5 qt. Allclad steamer and really like it. So I placed my order this morning and threw in the 12 qt. combo steamer pasta stock pot too. Sucker is huge and won't use it a lot but for a turkey carcass or a couple of boned out chickens should fit the bill. Have the Allclad HA1 cook set, really like my Allclad. Wish didn't wait until until I was so old to get it all but then again when the boys were at home with me I often had to say "and that is why I don't have nice things" LOL. Looking forward to using the Instant Pot too though.
