But does it totally replace a crock? Seems the oval shape of the crock is a benefit in itself for many cuts of meat. Maybe just cut the meat into shapes that fit the circular pot?

I use this recipe, great in a pinch for time. Not authentic, but damn good. I replace the lard (usually) with half butter / half bacon fat, and replace the water with warm chicken broth... I've been told they are addictive (somebody asked me if I put crack in them), so I guess that's a pretty good compliment...

I got the fancy-pants Fagor brand.
I like the multi cooker principle because it’s one (or 3) less appliances I have to keep up with. I can pressure cook a meat quickly if I forgot to take something out to thaw. Slow cook, rice make. Yogurt make-haven’t yet. Not sure I ever will... made in China...

As for Instant Pot itself... I know the Fagor name and reliability. IP came out of nowhere. Their own website says ‘designed by Canadians, for Americans, made in China.’ I have not seen long Term reliability since they haven’t been around much yet.

Just saw something interesting at Wikipedia... I tried to look up Instant Pot, no go, so I looked up slow cooker instead, maybe the page would have some kind of Instant Pot info. Nope, but I read something about certain types of beans being unsafe to put directly into slow cooker without boiling first. Thought I'd share in case I can save a life, what the hell. :D

    Poisoning concerns
Raw kidney beans, and, to a lesser extent, some other such beans as broad beans or fava beans, contain the toxin phytohemagglutinin. Boiling destroys this toxin, but the far lower temperature of a slow cooker does not. This means that dry beans must be boiled at 100 °C (212 °F) for at least 30 minutes prior to slow cooking,[10] or, alternatively, they must be soaked in water overnight, after which the water must be discarded, and the beans must then be boiled for at least 10 minutes. Even a few beans can be toxic, and beans can be as much as five times more toxic if cooked at 80 °C (176 °F) than if eaten raw,[11] so adequate pre-boiling is vital, and indeed crucial, to avoid phytohemagglutinin poisoning.

Not sure if I would have trusted a GenX financial consultants web page for a crock pot recipe , but I saved it a long time ago. Then, before I had my smoker, someone gave me a pork butt and I remembered I had saved this. Used it for a camping gathering, everyone thought it was very good. I do like pork loin in the smoker better but this did come out nice.

    http://genxfinance.com/crock-pot-bbq-pulled-pork-recipe-for-under-15-easy-and-frugal

I did use Chris and Pitts BBQ sauce - only sauce I will use that is not home made.

I will echo @Cuffs post. Bought the "PowerCooker" as one of two "as seen on TV" items in my lifetime, and it really works great. Functions as a slow cooker but comes up to temp much faster and holds it as consistently as a ceramic pot with no burning. Also functions as a pressure cooker that we use for everything from bulk hard boiled eggs (our chickens sometimes produce ahead of our ability to consume) to frozen meats to pasta. You can also brown meats and other items right in the pot, then add slow cooking ingredients on top. Also a good rice cooker. Saves on pots and pans and you can set the time and forget it. Automatically goes to the keep-warm setting when done. I highly recommend.
