Do you brown the meat first?

Wife makes a similar chili but she browns the meat and onion first and I always just thought throw it all in there it'll all be cooked.

    Always brown mine first.

Mix some flour, garlic powder, mustard powder, and onion powder together, coat the meat with that mix, and then brown it in a hot cast iron pan.

Damned if I don't have that very same CP. The lid doesn't fit for shit coz many moons ago at a drunkeness party ;) somehow the lid got switched with a different CP. Never did find out where it went, or if it fit their CP, :notsure:

I like my kitchen aid. Nice and big, ceramic insert. Con is that you can't put in on the stove to brown stuff but the pro to that is that it doesn't have any off that chemical nonstick shit on it. Another con is that there was a large batch of the ceramic inserts that crack but they will replace them for free supposedly. Mine has had a crack in it for over five years but it's never completely broke or leaked so I've just rolled with it.

And they retain heat! So if you make something for a party or something it'll still be hot when you get there.

I have one with a ceramic insert too. I'm a fan.

Yes, they do hold their heat super well too. Many times I've gone to wash it at the end of the night and it is still really warm.

maybe needs to stir some? If its on low and has enough water in it shouldnt typically burn unless its thickening too quick. If you are adding rice and noodles Id wait till the end of the cooking of whatever you have in there otherwise it will burn/stick/clump together. But I still will say its probably too thick of gravy/liquid contents. Ive left beans overnight and never had them burn for instance.

I should have been more specific but I was on my phone....

I do brown it first then put the meat, sauce and spices in the CP cook it on high for an hour then add the rest of the ingredients reduce to low and wait

That whole site has some awesome ideas on it. So going to try the whiskey/bacon brownies at some point. I'm not a big chocolate person but it's got whiskey and bacon.
