I bought this vehicle with a good title but it was torn apart, literally on the inside and needs quite a bit of body work. When I picked it up, every module was ripped from the vehicle and it only had seats, carpet and wiring. Even the headliner was ripped out. - aftermarket Katzkin - aftermarket rear heated seats - upgraded sound system - Dynamat throughout.
So I called Toyota to get a push button start, button. I'm told 5 weeks minimum and $500 CAD. So... Nope!

I looked online and found KTJO 4*4 and I ordered a push button from him with the red button.

I ordered it next day DHL but unfortunately with Covid nothing is next day.

While I waited for 3 weeks, I ended up finding a stock one at a wrecker in another city that also had a dash pad. It was a bit scratched from windshield glass but it wasn't too bad at all so I went and grabbed it.

    PXL_20200911_201817872.jpg

I had a lot of work to do on the dash, it has a lot of tiny scratches. I got out the torch and heat gun and went to town. I got it pretty good. I'll take some pics of the dash soon and post them.

In the meantime, I had to start putting in modules. The Facebook group for great north tacomas was super helpful. I was able to track down all of the modules and get them installed.

That was some of the modules as I took photos to identify them. I got them all installed and then I put the rest of the dash together. Then it looked liked this.

Well I had NO IDEA how many KM cause there was no way to turn anything on. The body control module was missing so opening the door did nothing.

After I got all the modules in, and the tech came, I found out it had 83,000 km or so.

Quite high. But 8 months before the person had bought it for his brother with only 50,000 km. So in 8 months it had quite a bit put on it. I think he was living in it.

I paid $12,000 CAD for it.
I have $1700 CAD into it so far. I'm now driving it as my daily already. Runs like a beauty!

Mental illness. I'm not going into too much detail for respect for the family. I told them I wouldn't get into it online. It was just a bad situation. No cheating, no ex, no retaliation. The person did this to his own truck in a panic and with mental illness.

The 16 model year and some 17s built in 16 have timing cover leaking problems.

Oh this is good to know! I did see some sweating around that area of the engine. I'll search the threads. Is it an easy fix????

So now the interior is almost back together.

Problems at this stage : (I might miss one or two)

    - auto headlights not working.
    - only driver's door window switch working
    - tailgate caved in and won't open / close properly.
    - rear bumper FUBAR'd.
    - missing tail lights
    - no front bumper cover.
    - fog lights busted from mounting
    - no covers in steering column
    - no headliner
    - no antenna wire, it's cut at the shark fin and extension cable to A pillar is cut.
    - no panel under steering column by driver's knees.
    - no fog light switch panel / bed lights switch panel
    - bed sides are caved in, that's fine though, I want the wide body kit from TacomaBeast (4.5")
    - stereo volume doesn't work. Screen was scratched bad! (Got it out with a LOT of baking soda toothpaste. Looks great now but no volume control on the deck)
    - no blind spot detection
    - no hazard lights.

Everything else, as long as I'm not forgetting anything work perfect!! Lol

I believe his backstory! No lie... I found a tweaker completely dismantling his car from the inside on a bad meth trip one day. He was convinced there was some government listening device inside the car while he dismantled and cut every wire he could find on this newer Honda Accord. The crazy thing is when I called his girlfriend to have him picked up, she wasn’t a bit surprised or even upset about the car.

Yeah similar but in this case not a tweaker. Just a normal person with an illness.

True story, when I ran the audio shop I had a lady with the same story. She was adamant about paying us to tear her car apart. I really didn’t want to but she insisted. I only quoted/allowed a few hours for the job. Gutted basically everything but the dash assembly. Whatya know.. didn’t find anything.
    Really sad actually.

So at that point, I called a locksmith. F towing this thing to the dealer. $200 bucks later I got the truck running without a single CEL and he even had a mobile laser cutter and got me a key cut to match!

So now I have a key reseed done, truck is running, and I have manual laser cut key without having to take it to the dealer. It took about an hour but it was worth every penny.

So all seemed well in the world until I saw this... Yup... He bashed a hole and in the floor and yes, that is the brak and gas mines right below there!
