That looks like a Batmobile. love that car tire in the front. That definitely goes with your armored truck. Yes my obsessive mind flips back and forth between The Tacoma and the Indian. Friday bring in truck to get regear 8 a.m. go home and wait for risers and rush exhaust for Indian and install exhaust and pick up truck. Squeeze in ride on Indian with wife(hopefully exhaust shows up early)and 2 trips to park with the 13 yr old rottweiler and my daughters visiting golden doodle. haha.

So, dropped the truck off and told mechanic 85w140 non syn that ECGS suggests and he seemed to think they would recommend synthetic.
So anyone have opinions on this?
If you have done the regear what oil did you use?

My regearer recommended 85 as well. I should have a Locked 4.56 by the end of today or tomorrow.

so I just picked it up and so far feels pretty good. Gets into the power band around 3k much easier. Pick up is better and seems to change gears at more rational rpms. So I will post up after some more driving around next week. rpms at 65 are maybe 300 more so no real huge difference but it feels much better. I am going to keep my 235s on there for now. Don't want a set of 31s to put me back where I started.IMG_20170602_163740.jpg

You shouldn't be driving that fast after a regear. You need at least a 100 mile break-in period. The brand new gear and pinion are still rough and heat up very easily.

O.k. good to know. I was wondering about the break in. It was only for about 3 seconds on a short road around here. Thanks. I will take it much easier for the next few days.

Great write up. Gives a novice like myself an idea of what goes into building a 3rd.

Got a lot of stuff lol
What milage would you suggest not reusing the bearings? I fear that at 88k I would have to get new one.

To anyone doing a regear, do 4.56 if you got 33s. MPG won't really get better, but the Bitch will fucking go though! Got pulled over within the first week of regearing(After break-in period), if that tells you anything about it:D

Gone over the Top for a 5-lug..
It sounds like you've got her now over-geared a bit, but you are also pushing higher revs at the top end, than is the norm - 4.30 gearing is pretty much optimal for the 33's. Additional rotational weight and drag at the tires of course, helps make the MPG go away.

    I'll have a similar situation, going to 235/85R16 .. at, 31.7" those call for 3.91, not 4.10.

A little bit of additional low-end torque get up and go, is a good thing. I'm looking forwards to that.
