This one was a head scratcher just the same as the lower strut click. Some said it could be the plastic which covers the A pillar…some said it could be the ECM’s under the dash…some said it could be the speaker cover. All of which could be true. Man, this little dude caused water torture to no end. Gotta love YouTube and the users that just get to the point!

If you have a tapping sound coming from the right side of the dash area, and it goes away with heat, but is apparent in colder weather, it could be the plastic cap that covers the sensor area (if the Taco doesn’t have it) which turns on the headlights automatically at dusk.

To this Taco owner, many Gracias’!

EDIT: I forgot to mention I used some super glue at the joint. The Taco is a pleasure to drive now. No click and no tap on a Taco FTW.

That's interesting, thanks for posting that.

I just checked and that little plug is indeed loose in there, but I haven't experienced that tapping noise. I'd think pulling the plug and applying a small dab of silicone adhesive would take care of it though.

I was experiencing a similar noise in that exact location, but more "creaking" that's typical with plastic parts touching plastic parts. I cured it by inserting some thin rubberized padding between the right side of the speaker cover and the A pillar. Later I replaced the stock tweeters with DS18 PRO-STs (terrific improvement), reassemble it without the padding and the noise hasn't returned. (Hope I didn't jinx it).

Love these kinds of tips and tricks on TW!

Hear hear, TW is a great resource. The good thing is it ends up at the top of searches.

I always thought that plastic piece was molded into the dash, being it doesn’t have the sensor and it looked too perfect. I never questioned it was a plug.

I had a strip of something along the edge too, but eventually the trick stopped working. These Tacos take on a life of their own and forget to tell us about it!!! Little gremlins named Click and Tap ahahaa.

The funny part about this morning was I just got back from a “short drive” to test it, that ended up turning into an extendo drive. It honestly feels like a new truck. Good stuff:cheers:

Wooooo! So the noise returned, and it was time to go Rambo on it! Ahahaa, I studied the area further and noted that the air vents were a bit higher than I previously thought. “What if I shoved some material in there?.” I searched the tube, shoot, this fella hit a grand slam with the fix. The best part is it’s concealed very well. So the three areas were near the speaker/pillar, automatic headlight sensor cap, and across the front of the dash.

What a major difference. I had to come back in and give props to this Taco owner!!!!!!!
