    James, does that thread talk about the spikes that were removed from the trail? I know at least one set was discovered and removed.

    Yeah. They hooked them to winches and yanked steel plates with spikes welded on.

    yeah, they were pulled out, and there are a couple reports of people running it without trouble since then... but the trail should be assumed to have semi hostile locals...

    As far as I know, you can camp anywhere along the trail.

    The trail is public but land on either side is private west of the fire tower. Camping would have to be from the fire tower and back to the east since that is the national forest.

    Entered on Nine Pines road near Clayton. Highway 259 is where you can get off or keep heading east. The trail east of 259 seems to be more maintained.

    I'm not sure where it technically ends. When traveling on it east and it crosses highway 259 it does a big loop and comes back into 259 a little south from where you crossed.
