What's the easiest way to do this? I assume tapping into the BLUE wire that goes to the dome light and grounding the other wire to the trucks frame.

Option 1 is the easiest. One wire from negative terminal of LED to blue dome wire. And then one wire from positive terminal of LED to a constant power source (your choosing but mine is run the the 20A Dome circuit in interior fuse box I keep talking about)

I'm currently rewriting/consolidating the entire original post as well as my subsequent posts and pictures on directions, as well as the Tundra part information from @Up2NoGood in order to clean up this thread and make it less confusing and scattered.

Fyi, to save you just a little more on shipping select First Class mail. Mine got shipped on the 19th, and I got it on the 21st. I work for the USPS and we process FCM after processing all the Priority Mail pretty much the same night. Just a food for thought.

That's not a bad idea! I've got an old CP I could rob a couple of pins out of, and splice the wire onto it. Putting a soldier gun (heat) on the old plastic harness connector will soften it up. You can then be able to pull the metal pin out without damaging it. Thanks MAcGyver!

    Nice.

So which wiring option did you end up going with?

No offense I am not bashing, But is it really worth the effort to have an illuminated ring around your ignition?

I just hooked up to dome light circuit. Turns off when dome turns off . Got some extra terminals if you want some.

if it's of no use to someone the question arises about the value of the effort put forth to question its use.

I don't use my dome light so its helpful so was worth it to me . Plus like doing mods . Wasn't much effort after fellow members did all the research and shared info for everyone.

Is it worth the effort? Yes, because its extremely easy to do. Is it worth the monetary cost? All a matter of opinion.

I outlined in my original post pre-edit, the reason I did this is because guys had done it for 1st gens (which includes your 2003), and I wanted to attempt the same, albeit Toyota's new electronics made it a little more annoying to figure out.

This reminds me I have a 3rd gen 4Runner ring that would fit your model year truck that I never used if you want to do this lol. I'd have to find it though. I wish the 2nd gen mod was as cheap as it is to do for 1st gen Tacomas.

All good points. It's clearly not going to be worth it for everyone or even most. I think it's a nice touch, easy to do and the cost isn't too bad... Maybe a little pricey for what it is but so are a lot of other things we choose to mod on this site.

Some people just don't appreciate this subtle mods. That's like joining this forum and not doing any mods to your Taco. Don't make sense no?
