I always snag the 4ft by 4ft pieces of cardboard that Costco uses to stabilize products on pallets. They give them away for free and I lay two of them down and then pull the car/truck on top of them. Helps catch any stray drips from the filter on my wife's car. The truck is easy. I just stick an empty glass bottle under the drain and unscrew it!

If you do happen to spill a bit, a good kitchen soap (something with a good de-greaser in it) works wonders. I spilled 5+ quarts on my driveway last time I changed the oil in the truck. I mopped up what i could with paper towels and then grabbed the soap from under the kitchen sink. I poured a large amount on the oil spots and scrubbed them with a stiff bristle brush (happened to be a tire brush), then rinsed the whole area with the garden hose. Surprising, you wouldn't even be able to tell. Not a single stain remains on the driveway from the incident and it would have been a large stain.

You should have asked Hannah to help. I told you this with Angel. It's an excuse to get dirty and all touchy feely with painting each other.

Edit: is Hannah's taco there? :fingerscrossed:

Edit 2: what color paint? It looks a bit darker than the one I use in my flips. I used Light Pewter. I like it! The semi-gloss white trim will really pop with that color wall and the darker floors.

I just put down a tarp, 4 cylinder oil filter locations suck!

    Yes they are the worst!

When I lived in the "country," I used to just change my oil in my driveway because it was dirt, and it didn't matter if I spilled a little. But my wife got sick of the bugs, the wood stove and the lack of a dishwasher, so now I am in the big city with a nice garage and I am scared to fuck it up!

Id say loosen it a little, let the oil drain out. Then slowly take it off more. One turn at a time. I havent seen the filter, but im guessing it can be taken off without much spilling.

All my previous cars had bottom filters. Honda is known for it maybe. But it is possible to get it off cleanly. Or at least without it on the ground, and just down your arm.

Just throwing it out there, but could you just punch a hole in the end of it with a awl or screwdriver and let it drain, and then unscrew the filter?
