Archive also has adjustable positions on their hangers just not on the shackle but you can change the shackle length so that makes it adjustable in two different ways.

Wow the bamf ones look just like the archive ones. And that price, 315 for everything shipped. Hmm. I may go with them. although... the guy who's 2 pictures i quoted a bit ago has a set of archive shackle flips for sale. Less than a year old. $200.

Yeah I saw that. I was thinking the adjustments were only on the shackle itself. I'm trying to run before I walk hah

The for sale thread that that one dude posted, is for the old style shackle flip that he used to offer the new one has a different coating on it something like 1000 hour salt spray tested.

I asked the question in the camping gear thread too, but I would like your opinions too! :

Hey guys, my father gave me this vintage coleman catalytic heater, and I would like to know if anybody is actually using it and if the heat is decent? Coleman fuel around here is priced at around 20$/gal. is it safe to use it with gasoline, which would be cheaper? I am kinda a fan of accessories working withfuel, and would also like to know if thedual fuel lantern is a good choice, light output wise, and maybe heat wise for a small room/tent (with good aeration obviously)

    Thanks!

looks to be a little overkill if you plan on heating it in a tent. short bursts of a min or two is usually enough for my mr heater. Cant comment on how much this will consume but seeing the 3600btu, it shouldn't be much in consumption. It looks massive in relation to that table

Mine goes through a 50 lb bag in a month or so. She gets 3 cups a day. That's crazy that it lasts him that long!

    That's insane...50 lbs last him a year?!

I don't have experience with that exact heater but have plenty experience with Coleman/camp heaters in general. Unleaded gas can be used as a substitute but tends to gunk up the equipment and considering the age of that heater I would not recommend it, although it can be done. As another member said, 3500 BTUs should be fine for a small tent, although it depends on how small, and again, the age of that heater, it will not be efficient as some of the newer ones like the Mr. Buddy. But, it beats the hell out of going out and buying a new one!

Im going with the BAMF ones. Don't have them yet from the group buy, but they are stock replacements just a lot beefier, since mine got bent somehow....:annoyed:

It is pretty big! I mostly plan to use it on my fishing boat this spring to warm my hands after I put them in the water lol I wouldn't trust it in a tent, using gas lol maybe a shot of heat to warm up the beds before going sleeping, but with what I red it takes around 15-20 minutes for it to become at full heating capcity.
of course i am not expecting it to be full efficient, but my father also told me he never used it, and for the little I will I think I could use gasoline since I always carry some. I also thought I could maybe use Methyl hydrate? And as you said, Having it for free beats having to go buy another one haha I think I'll give it a try this week. The worst that can happen is it blowing up

Do not use gasoline in a lantern that's meant for Carosine guys. C'mon lol rookie stuff. Carosine as actually an oil not gas do they are not the same. Sure they both burn but ur asking for trouble.

But that one is meant for Naptha lol kerosene and other "oily" fuel would clog it after a while lol

I don't think that is a kerosene heater. I believe it is suppose to run on Coleman Camp Fuel.

Diesel is closer to Kerosene then gasoline is but I still wouldn't do it. They all have different boiling points. And they all have different viscosities. The only time I would substitute one for the other is diesel can be used as house heating oil if ur in a pinch but it has a brighter sulfur content and burns a little differently
