Gave it a shot last night for the first time. I had the rods themselves for a while now having interest in it. Wanted to make my chainsaw spare mount out of aluminum but rushed the project for Va and did steel. Now here I am buying a used canoe tomorrow morning and decided to make an exo cross bar around the cargo box. Something bout crunch time I get the best motivation lol

Thank goodness there's one within 100' of my desk!

That's cool! I've wanted to try stick for the hell of it. Not many people do that when welding things for our trucks. That's a cool idea too for the canoe holder. Will you just make it easily removable so you can get into the storage under it?

Yea I like stick as the fact of that’s where welding started. I’ve stick welded in the past a little bit and the company I work for has pipeline welders and everything is stick, along with the cost of a stick home welder with enough range of material thicknesses I went with a Lincoln AC/DC welder for the garage. It’s done everything I’ve wanted it to so far but not so user friendly as a mig. I was actually fortunate enough and patient enough (long story) to have this Lincoln Power Mig 300 land in my lap. Look forward to cleaning it up and hopefully building the truck to a trey/canopy and eventually an off-road trailer.

The idea of this crossbar is to just protect the plastic cargo box. I’ve already had surboards, kayaks, paddle boards, lumber up there. The cargo box has no strength to it tho.. I’m going to Vt in September and picked up a used canoe for the trip. The cross bar will basically rest on the road shower (passenger side) and be bolted to the prinsu (driver side). The straps will Be tied into the prinsu not the crossbar so the downward pressure will keep the crossbar in place.. I’ll add wingnuts to the driver side so say get to camp, unstrap and remove canoe, undo wingnuts and remove cross bar. In theory hah.

Woah, that's really awesome! I wish welders landed in my lap. And I get what you're saying about how the bar will secure. Seems like it would work well in theory!

Just finished Chipotle. Tried to pair it with Troppicanon. Too much citrus. Should have made margaritas instead.

Rob, what kind of margarita guy are you? Blended or on the rocks? Salt or no salt? Traditional flavor or something else like mango?
