Dremel for the easy to get to sections. Body chop saw for down in the corners by the rocker panel.

@EatSleepTacos where did you get your coax for your cb? And how long is yours?

I just got some generic one off of Amazon, and it's 18' long. That seems to be the standard because I read that it's most efficient in 9' increments. If you have any excess, don't coil it up. You have to route all the extra somewhere, otherwise it can mess with performance.

I know EST already answered you but... Measure how much you need, drive to any major trucker station and go see the CB guy, they'll cut you a custom length one. It should be about the same price and you won't have to worry about routing it in a special way due to the excess length.

@BravesTaco95 Where are you thinking of mounting your antenna? If on the corner of the tailgate, the 18' is the absolute perfect length. No excess.

    I'm in for 1 sticker!

Currently sitting at a tire store because I have a leak in a tire on my work car...crap thing is they can't patch the tires because the vehicle is pursuit rated. If it is anything other than a bead or valve stem, they have to replace the tire...But the guy already told me he doesn't have any of the tire in stock...it could be a long afternoon! :frusty:

Ah geez. Is it a take home car? How come you're the one having to deal with it?

Yeah, it is a take home, and we are responsible for all maintenance (getting it done at least, but not financially)

That makes sense then. Also I've always thought take home cars were the coolest thing. Are you the only one that drives it? That way you can customize certain aspects just for you?

Well the original plan was to mount it on my hood hinge bracket with my ditch lights (SOS has enough for both) but I got a message from Amazon this morning that my coax with the firering won't be shipped (reason unknown) so I'm just going to mount at top of tailgate around the same area as you. Don't want the 18' with a fire ring because you have to solder the connector together and I'd rather have the connector assembled when it gets here.

Ah gotcha. So you're going to go with just a regular coax? Good call. I've heard the firering is questionable, and a good coax makes troubleshooting a CB set up a lot easier.

I share with a partner, but he doesn't take it home when it is his rotation. We aren't allowed to modify anything on the vehicle other than adjustig seat and mirror position...

My last partner plasti dipped the rims and emblems on our last car and he got quite a bit of flak from our admin for it...it was no bueno!

HA that's pretty funny!! Still cool in my book. I've always thought law enforcement was pretty bad ass.

Yeah just figured I would run a plain Jane coax. I've just heard that some people have to get longer than 18' so I thought I'd ask since yours was in the spot I was going.

Still have to figure out where to run it to because I have the midland 75-822 so I don't have an actual cb box and would like to make one of the blank switch squares into a connector of some sorts. That way it would look clean and I could plug into the coax right beside the 12v outlet.

You should have juuuust enough to make that happen. I ran my coax above the wheel well, along the frame, then through a grommet that's under the passengers carpet near where their feet would go. If not, you could always get a 3' coax cable meant for SWR meters and a male-male connector to join the two cables.
