@EatSleepTacos Good to know. It’ll be my next mod on the 4Runner. Especially since it’s not my DD and I typically tow it to wheel anyways. Not that I have to, more peace of mind if I break and just want to load up and go home to repair.

Now I'm a pro at install so we could do it very easily now that I've picked up a few tricks. I estimate we could do it in 5 hours at the shop sometime.

edit: though we need to bake the ring gear, so not sure how we'll do that.

I’m not sure which lunchbox you installed. I had a lock rite in mine for awhile. They’re supposed to be better on the street than others. I don’t know, because it’s the only one I ever had.

That all sounds normal. You will also notice the truck wanting to go straight if you apply power in a corner. Such as an on / off ramp. It’s not terrible, but it’s there.

    :woot:

Isn't supposed to be unlocked when turning normally on asphalt?

If I had the option to tow, I would too.

That will come in the next couple of years.

It locks when power is applied period. Doesn’t matter the terrain or condition

I installed the powertrax no-slip. Same company that makes that lock right (and is the same thing as a lock right) but supposedly the no slip has better on road characteristics. It was an extra $20 when purchasing so I figured I should get it.

Yeah I get that it doesn't make the difference between terrain, but just trying to understand what are the need for it to engage or disengage

Yup. That’s what I had. Cool. Mine wasn’t TERRIBLE. My truck is my daily though. I ditched the mechanical locker for ARBs when I re-geared. Otherwise, it’d still be in there.

Yeah what he said. If there's no power applied, then it's unlocked. Power applies and it's locked.

That's why driving habits need to change to not applying power around corners.

I would definitely do the same. This was an inexpensive interim option and will hopefully satisfy me for awhile. I don't need to reagear but I do feel like I need a locker. Open rear diff sucks.

Absolutely. Rear locker is a game changer.

Front locker is just nice to have.

So in every acceleration situation it gets locked, ok, but will it lock at highway speed, say like, you want to pass someone, but not fast, just drop in 5th and do it slow? Or the little G force it gets makes it lock anyway?

Yeah I'm pretty sure I saw a whole thing of stamps on his workbench too. Look like they had been there a while.

When driving down the freeway it'll be locked. Passing someone it'll be locked. Locked in a straight line or a slight curve is a non issue though and you can't even tell. It's sharp turns that you notice it. It's not necessarily only accelerating that it locks, but it just locks whenever you're on the throttle. Even if maintaining a cruising speed

Yep got it! Then it is mostly always locked lol I like it. At least you don't have too harsh winter down there or you'd be using the winch often haha

Edit: and that being said, it makes the LSD totally useless now, i'd get one lol

What do you mean by the winch comment?
