More than likely just 4x4 12-15 but if the dealership gave me a good deal I might consider 3rd gen.

Wouldn't be opposed to a T4R but it might be hard to find a good one under 30k. Plus when I got the approval of the cfo she said that I can get whatever I want in my budget but no new mods could happen after I bought it until she gets out of school in 2 years. So the only way around that is either buy a modded truck or buy a 05-15 tacoma so I can swap parts.

It also depends on if you want the face-lifted 5th gen or not. Ultimately buy what makes you (and the CFO) happy.
Just a quick cargurus search resulted in this:

That's not a bad deal at all (plus it's MGM)! If I went 4runner I want the face lift. Love the look of the newer ones. We would definitely be happy with either a truck or 4runner and will ultimately get one when we have kids because her jeep jku will be gone due to lack of safety features. I don't haul anything in the bed because I have a shell. My bed is small anyways so I've always had to use trailers to haul anything big so I'm not losing anything. Plus 4runners have a little more cab space.

I love my 4runner. the only thing I hate is that a lot of the mods tend to be more expensive than the tacomas because there is a smaller market. And its also harder to find used parts for the same reason.

Yeah I could see that. I wouldn't go crazy with it anyways. I'd just like to have a decent rack and one of those ladders (purely because I think they look cool).

:boink: Don’t listen to Tyler. He’s constantly mentioning how he wishes he bought a Tacoma for the bed alone.:stirthepot:

so the prinsu full length rack (the one I have) ran me ~900. The gobi ladders are ~200 and work with the prinsu rack. I don't have one solely because I want to go with a steel rear bumper w/ swingout and they interfere with the swingout on some bumpers.

If you do start seriously considering a 4R, go to t4r.org and check out the 5th gen section and research some of the different issues people have experienced. You can also check out 4runners.com.

Because I'm gonna need a truck bed in our house with all the projects I'm gonna have. And my fridge takes up half my storage space... but I can't live without a fridge now...

The only way I'd get a 4runner is if it's a stupid good deal. I'd like to have a tacoma because I may need to throw something muddy, wet, greasy, etc in the bed and just be able to spray it out. I hunt so the bed is good for hauling deer and stuff. Plus I can just get some $50 take offs and swap parts one afternoon and maybe sneak $1k to put in a streamline bumper and a winch. :D

But ultimately I'd be happy with anything that has that damn 4x4 button on the dash.

I have some OEM shocks, coilovers and UCAs from a 3rd gen I can let you have real cheap. Not sure they would fit or not though.

I would assume most of that stuff is interchangable. Think the frames stayed pretty much the same.

That should work fine then. I'm pretty sure I still have my rear shocks.

You don't need a truck, just get a pressure washer!

You could meet this Saturday at that fancy new Starbucks out on 40, near Heritage Toyota, everything is boxed up so it won't be a mess lying around until you are ready, and if you want, I will accept payments, monthly.
