Does the android app you use play spotify? That's my main source of music so it might not be worth it.

 

That's my ONLY source of music altho I hate it right now. Need to get my plugs under the console actually installed one day

To actually wire my phone to Android auto. Bluetooth is actually the worst playback method for quality and clarity. Once I have it where my phone is plugged directly to the headunit then it will be much clearer.

 

Gotcha. Never knew that. So a aux cord setup would be best or another method?

Interesting. I have my old iPhone 6s I could use for an aux setup. Might have to try it out and see.

 

This x1000. Although I'm in the same boat currently using Spotify on my phone. I need to redo/update my iPod Touch and plug it directly to my stereo.

 

I have an old android phone laying around.. I've been thinking about wiping everything off of it and just using it as a primary music player.

 

That's what I did when I got the new XS max. Took everything off except spotify and motionX gps to track trail routes.

Is usb or aux better?

 

Aux is just 3.5mm headphone.. If your head unit will recognize your device and play music via USB, I'd use that.

Edit for more info:
Most audio is stored in a digital format. Using straight USB will transfer the audio without converting.

Using an aux cable requires the phone to convert the signal from digital to analog then back to digital to play on your head unit.

 

I think the entune system should do usb if I use an apple cord.

 

Also, just replacing the speakers would probably help significantly. Toyota uses these very cheap, flimsy paper cone speakers that just don't work well. Something like some 3 way speakers in the front doors, and 2 ways in the rear doors.. just not overly powerful, cause the factory head unit isn't very strong.

 

I personally would prefer USB . That's the interface the Android auto uses.

 

It said my 4runner came with "premium" audio, but I'm sure that only meant I had a couple extra speakers and navi. Doesn't seem to sound anymore premium to me than my tacoma.
