I spent a bit of time making my sliders look good, after this weekend they look worse than when I got them.

I can't follow the mall crawlers painting Bible, if it looks good from 10 feet away then it's perfect. Gonna be scratched all to hell in less than 2 weeks anyways or at least in my case.

There's no Bible. I thought the original goal was to achieve the most durable finish.

If that's not possible, or achievable, you could just run raw steel. If you keep scraping off the rust, think of all the time and extra money you save from say 15 feet away. Then you could then just soak a rag in WD40 and wipe it off. 5 minutes and you are done.

I put bedliner over the PC. Still took it down to raw metal. Altho the rocks it was on was no joke.

Truth my skids and sliders got a workout coming down that trail. Wish I had a locker I would of gone up it. Now way without a locker.

I would be willing to bet even LineX on sliders would not stand up to a rock with the weight of a truck on it. I mean you're really asking a lot out anything to withstand that. I know for a fact my powder coating will be toast after the first time. :annoyed: That's the nature of the beast though and I will be ok with that.

I must have misunderstood though. I thought this paint convo started with a way to come up with something more durable than just rattle can paint for parts not being subjected to impact. Like that tire carrier or some gussety things. :notsure:

Ok, looked it up, so these are part of the suspension system on the front axles.

So then basically, while they would be subjected to abuse it is mainly nothing from impacting obstacles. Correct? So the enamel paint will just be harder than an alkyd paint and definitely stronger than a rattle can.

Cool Cool Cool. I learnt something.

Yeah this whole experiment started to find a more durable paint for parts that won’t be hit into shit, so you’re correct there. The spindles will see road grime, salt, etc so we want them to be very durable.

Speaking of paint, I got the tire carrier painted and just waiting to dry. I laid that shit on thick.

This of course won’t really work with the spindles, but if you ever use the paint on something else, definitely get some rollers. It would look a bit better with that, and be easier. I may coat my skids in this stuff.

Damn. Any reasons why it wouldn't? Or just PC would hold up better?

Oh no silly, I meant you can’t roll it onto the spindles. You’ll have to brush it on.

That's definitely the other side of the coin for any coating that has been applied very thick. You definitely run the chance of it coming off in hunks like this. I have heard enough horror stories on here though that if LineX is applied incorrectly it is worse than bare metal.

I had it done in the bed of a truck I use to own and after a couple years I went to pick up a pallet of salt for the driveways at the house. The storage yard was nothing but rock salt, sand and gravel everywhere. The pallet was sitting on the ground. When the guy put it in the bed of the truck the excess was falling off like rain. He put it in the bed and before I could tell him to get another bite to lift it in, he slid it forward with the fork truck. I had to turn away! The grinding and crunching sound made my stomach turn. He didn't lift it at all to slide it either. He just pushed on the skid. It was 40 50# bags of salt. So 2k lbs sliding on the LineX with gravel and rock salt embedded into the bottom of the pallet. It didn't even scratch it. Definitely didn't cut into it. Now, of course a truck weighs more and the weight is more concentrated on the round face of the slider but.......LineX is some serious shit.

Again, I'm not expecting it to hold up to rocks on sliders.

It’ll go in my bed, behind my fridge. I’m going to drill 4 holes in my bed and use 1/2” grade 8 hardware to secure it. Here’s my mock up.

I think I’d die trying to get this spare on and off the roof haha I considered just tossing it in for wheeling trips, but I want it mounted vertically so I can fit other shit in the bed too.
