I'm sitting here even questioning my ability to do this swingout. I know I can make one, there's no question about that. I just don't know if I can make one that'll live up to my expectations and work as well as I want it too, i.e. the opening and closing operation, and not look bulky.

Yeah I know but then I'd need a whole new swingout pretty much. Easier than doing all the work to modify the old one. I'd basically be starting from scratch minus the mounts on the bumper itself but those are easy. I could just buy the parts off joe but I want to challenge myself. And I want to try and get the swingout tighter to the bumper, maybe mount the spare at an angle to match the angle of the softopper. Like on the 4runner.

You can do it. It's not too hard. Sketch up what you are thinking and I'll 3D the parts and Joe A can cut them on the plasma for you.

Did you get the screen panel for the rear? I am not sure I would need that. I don't ever plan to sleep back there.

What I still want and what no one makes is a high clearance rear with a swingout that replaces the tailgate. Make it super high and tight and you don't have the obnoxious tailgate/swingout conflict. I've heard it's super easy to run a Fab shop... maybe I should start a business....

That would be two different products.

See that’s what I said. Just buy a HC from someone, and get a Wilco tailgate replacement.

Yup pretty much. Swing outs come with bumper because they attach to them. If not, they’d be considered a totally separate thing.

I think he wants a special swingout that's attached to the bumper, but takes the place of the tailgate. I feel it'd be too complex.

That seems like a complex solution to the problem. Two separate items would accomplish functionally the same thing but much more elegantly.

Fuck Yeah Dave! I like the way you think Brother!!!!

How about you just remove the skin from the tailgate, then weld the tire carrier to the inside frame. Then you could just have flat stock under everything you cut off the bedsides!!!

Update: The natty light hard seltzer uses malt liquor, and malt liquor and I don't get along.
