I like those totes. I use to do rattlesnake removal and added a handle on top of the lid (close it with my hand out of strike zone) and used it to transfer the snakes off the properties. Still got it 10 years later and it's held up great.

    Truth!!!

I got my header rail (turd gen problems) and a few filters for less than what the rail and shipping would be (and I'm less than an hour from dealership).Screenshot_20210316-115841_Outlook.jpg

One of my friends here is having a bunch of actuator issues on his tacoma and it has me paranoid so I'm going to be proactive and swap in a manually activated FJ case. $300 shipped from LKQ. It'll be out of a 2007 FJ with 130k miles on it, so 100k fewer than what I have on mine. I will need to swap input shafts but that's it.

For the ADD on the front diff, I'm going to engage it, then unplug the actuator. It'll just stay in the engaged position. I could swap in a solid tube from an FJ but that's $350 vs free.

Here are some links if anyone is curious as to the work involved.

Have fun! It is actually a pretty fun install and really gives peace of mind on the trail... gives a little extra hum on the street though, but hey it's not supposed to be super quiet in cab.

Did you have to swap input shafts too? I can’t remember if you’re a manual. Doesn’t seem too terrible but still.

I have been thinking about just buying an FJ case and sitting on it until my actuator goes out. It’s close to the price of just replacing the actuator itself.

I know a few people that had either the actuator or ADD go out and one of those trucks never really left the street.

I figure for $300 and a few days worth of my time, it won’t hurt to be proactive. Plus it’ll be cool to have it be all manual engagement.

Absolutely! That way you never have the issue.
