In this instance it’s because I would like to keep the rack as one complete unit to try and resell it. If I took the tie rods off I would need to get new clamps for the boots and deal with reinstalling the tie rods

Ah. Gotcha. My '02 rack is leaky, and I'm wondering what all I would be getting myself into.

I’ve heard a rack is easier on a first gen since it’s behind the knuckle vs in front of it. A lot easier access

I’m all finished for today. All I have left to do is cap where I cut out the old mounts, weld in new ones and bolt everything up.

There’s more pics on my IG story.

Another relevant photo. The intermediate shaft gets shortened by an inch. Cut a section out and welded it back together.

I got the holes capped and started working on fitment of the rack. Turns out my engine mounts are old and sagging so the rack simply won't fit. I put an order in for some solid engine mounts to lift it back up. Truck will be on stands for about a month now.

Traded out my 55 for a 35 plus cash. Didn’t really need to but a 35 fits my needs fine, my friend was in the market for a bigger fridge, and I could use the cash since this tundra rack rabbit hole is getting expensive.

If this only this punch had been well-aimed. I, in fact, do have a fridge. I ceased slumming it quite a while ago. Where were you for this momentous occasion? Building tube doors, I suspect.
