Purchased a trans cooler for the tundra last night. For whatever reason, Toyota decided to remove on 19-21 tundras. Just driving down the highway I was seeing temps right at 200 and when I would exit, the torque converter would jump up around 210-215 from heat soak. Supposedly it’s ok from reading the forums, but it’s easy to hit high temps while towing.

Since I’ll be up there in weight as well as regularly towing over hills, I thought it would be beneficial to add an aux cooler.

Side note, on a hot day my temp shoots up like crazy when im in park, not driving and even in traffic sometimes. When im driving and pressing the skinny pedal its fine. Is this going to help with that?

It should, yeah. Users are reporting temps consistently staying between 185-205

Having the transmission thermostat in that kit is good. I just plumped in the cooler in series with the OEM trans fluid cooler/warmer in the radiator and now I've got it decently blocked off in order to get up to temp lol.

It’s a super solid kit. All oem parts, except the cooler obviously. I watched an install video and it’s super straight forward.

I just added the trailer to my insurance policy in case of theft or damage. It's a whopping $2 a month. idk how I'll financially recover from this.

Dang, transmission cooler arrives Saturday and I only ordered it last night. I love when parts arrive quickly. I think I’ll install it Sunday morning.

She’s so close to being done. All I need to do is reassemble her. Meaning put the rack back in and bolt everything up, fill and bleed power steering, and do a toe alignment.

After that, modify my ifs skid. I’ll need to cut one mounting leg off and cap the hole on the skid. Bolt mounting leg to truck in new spot, bolt skid on, tack it, weld it, good to go. Basically shift the mounting leg over by an inch.

Then that’s it. I was hoping to have Betty completed this week but George got sent home from daycare today with a “fever” when he’s actually fine. So he’s with me today and tomorrow which means no wrenching time. Maybe Saturday, we’ll see.

Yeah, kinda a pain. Had to buy a new bolt that’s 1/2” longer to accommodate the skid. Which is fun since it’s so long which means it’s so expensive, like an $8 bolt lol

bolts are pretty spendy, thats a bummer.

At least you're not stripping out your weld nuts everytime it gets reinstalled lmao. That gets old after a while

I tried that earlier this year when towing our TT with our Tahoe. Had to pull it up a 8-9% grade that was 7 miles long with a speed limit of 30...made it almost to the top before I had to pull over and let things cool off. Temp hit 235 and I said enough. Pulled over and let it cool for about 10 minutes idling to about 185 and pulled the rest of the way to the top only reaching 205 again. Needless to say, I discovered we don't have an aux trans cooler on the Tahoe like I thought and we are making plans to replace it with a Tundra.
