I don't know about now but back in his Franzia/White Claw days, he was definitely desirable. :anonymous:

There are DOT approved versions now, but honestly, as long as there are dumbasses running around with fakes versions, how will the inspectors know?

Heck if I know, but I will say Betty still passes inspection. :spy:
I think you’re thinking of the new icon wheels beadlocks. They’re a neat design.

One thing I loved about the eastern shore. The good ol' boys at Harts Garage were always like "You took this off before you came in for this inspection :spy:. Thank you for your service."

Ahhhh, yea, those are the ones. Expensive but not stupid high for what you're getting. Neat but again, what keeps the inner bead from popping?

There's this tech now too that is used by the military. Again, street legal.

    https://www.hutchinsoninc.com/rock-monster-internal-double-beadlock-system/beadlock-technology/

Of course we both know any more than a one piece wheel is going to be excessively expensive.

Oh yeah, I forgot to touch on the inner bead thing. There are wheels that lock both beads but they're ridiculously heavy. The outer bead is going to be the one that pops 95% of the time so that's why most beadlocks only lock that one in place.

What keeps the inner bead from popping as much as the outer?

Usually popping the bead happens while turning and something is pressed against the outer bead. The inner bead just won't see the same directional forces that the inner does. A perfect example at the 4:50 mark.

Ahhh, cool. I don't see any added benefit then from the pin style wheel over a traditional beadlock then. The Hutchinson setup though with a two piece wheel makes it possible for anyone to install them without any special tools or tire mounting device.

However, you have to really need these to justify the cost. I tried to get a rough estimate and it looks like it could be anywhere from $600 to $800 a wheel.

The main benefit of the icon style is safety. If my beadlock ring were to come loose, that's the only thing holding the bead so the tire would most likely come off of the wheel if I were driving down the road. The icon style is just a standard wheel but then slips those pins behind the bead to keep it from slipping backwards. I imagine they're lighter as well but I'm not sure.

Oh, I thought beadlock rings were just an added precaution and without them nothing would happen. Just a regular wheel at that point.............so no?

Some wheels are just regular wheels with a bolt-on rock ring, like those TRD ones. Mine, the ring clamps down on the bead itself which is what locks the bead in place from slipping. If I were to neglect maintaining those bolts and the ring came off, all hell would break loose.

Yea, those TRD ones are lame AF! I just always assumed the beadlocks worked the same way as regular wheels, except with the added benefit of a bead locking ring, not actually required to run normal/higher pressure.

You think there would be a demand out here in Cali for an OG mobtown bumper?

I'm just super pissed at myself I never had the resources to get a front and rear bumper from him before it was too late. Now I have to come up with Plan B. :frusty:
