I knew I had messed up the wheel when I heard it, but was surprised it had ripped the sidewall of the tire.

I started on my ABS delete today. I got everything plumbed, mounted, and bled and was feeling good at how smooth things were going. I get in the truck and my foot goes to the floor. I check the fittings and tighten up the one feeding into the proportioning valve. I also replaced one of my rear soft lines because one of those was leaking for some reason.

I bleed again, foot still goes to the floor.

I check the fittings again and try and snug up the fittings on the proportioning valve some more. This time I stripped out one of the brass adapters.

I plugged it, leaving the truck with only front brakes and now I have a firm pedal again. So somewhere on the rear brake circuit is some fuckery but I'm not sure where. I'll get the new adapter in, bleed the truck again and go from there. The nuclear option is to make my own hard lines throughout the truck, and if I do I'll leverage my mechanic friend to use his tools and expertise.

edit: it ended up just being air in the lines. I replaced the fitting and bled again and everything works great.

Dumb question? Did you check the proportioning valve?

Edit: nevermind. After thinking it through I realized it's more a dumb question than I first thought. Carry on.

In what way? The valve itself isn't leaking and my foot still goes to the floor regardless of if it's all the way closed or open. Which, fully closed doesn't translate to 0% braking, it's 57% braking hence why my foot still goes down.

I did have it all the way open for bleeding so my vacuum bleeder wouldn't have to work as hard. My initial brake test was with it wide open so I wonder if that was too much pressure and I blew out the wheel cylinder or something.

I'm also leaving the ABS module in place and hooked up. I wouldn't care if the ABS light was illuminated, but the parking brake light is also tied into it and I prefer that stay working. Plus the master cylinder has a low fluid sensor that I want to stay functioning as well.

Just need a hydraulic handbrake now for a full ABS delete.

Get the double lever option and could do some sick skid turns around tight obstacles

So the inlet to the proportioning valve was also loose, so I wonder if when I was doing my initial bleed it was also sucking air into the system and my foot to the floor issue is still just a bunch of air in the system. I’m hoping I’ll just replace that adapter, bleed the brakes thoroughly again and it’ll be good.

Make sure to bleed the handbrake levers good and thorough then firmly seat the fittings too. Don't want brake fluid all over your interior when doing dank manji-drifts

That sucks. I'd be pissed. It's one thing when its not your fault, another if it is. I kissed a curb last winter but that was on me. I was doing donuts....

I believe this was my issue. I got the new fitting installed today and did another bleeding and the issue is gone. I adjusted my rear brakes and played with the proportioning valve and my brakes are finally solid. They're leaps and bounds better than they were and for now, I'm happy with them and will hold off on a big brake kit and tundra booster/master cylinder. So my ABS is officially bypassed, though the sensors and wiring remain. No dash lights but we'll see if that continues to be the case the next time the ABS kicks on only to realize there are no brake lines connected to it.

Do you remember what registration for your trailer cost? Or did the dealer tack all that on at sale?

$100 for a permanent trailer plate, plus tax. It was about $350 total. I didn't pay sales tax at the dealer and I got a paper 30 day plate. I had to go to the DMV to pay tax and get a plate.

Did they put the sales value on the title?

Title plus tax amount sounds about right

Also shoutout to etrailer. I've never purchased from them before but I keep getting updates about the backordered tires that I purchased. It's nice to be kept in the loop. I'm also going to poke around and see if I can find someone with these in stock.

Sorry I should have @crashdb within the statement! I know some folks when it's left blank on personal sales usually do a real low-ball price since they know they'll be paying sales tax. Wonder if they audit title transfers for sales tax fraud?

Ahhh I gotcha. I'm one to just be honest and pay tax on whatever I paid for the sale. I'm too chicken shit to save a few bucks and risk getting shafted.
