edit: I found some DOM for cheaper instead of using 4130.

I'm trying something a little different since I have an extra driveshaft on hand. This lands somewhere in between the Wide Open Design DIY driveshaft and a homemade square tube driveshaft.

My idea is I'll have a driveshaft for the trail and a driveshaft for the streets. To swap it, I'll just need to undo the 4 bolts at the rear axle and cut a zip tie on the slip yoke boot.

The OD of the slip yoke is 1.105" and I'll weld on a 3" section of 1.75"x0.313 wall DOM, with an ID of 1.125 ID. This'll act as a sleeve to accept the driveshaft. That'll be 2"x.120 wall, ID of 1.76".

The tail end has a 1350 spicer weld yoke meant to accept a 2"x.120 wall tube. I'll use a 1330 to 1350 conversion U joint for the end connection.

    $46 for a 3' section of DOM.
    $33 for a 3" section of DOM.
$80 for the weld yoke and U joint off of Amazon

    $159 for everything.

I just purchased all of the parts so hopefully I'll have everything on hand in about a week.

Got my inspiration for my new rear bumper that I'll be building once the shackle flip arrives. I'll essentially just marry these two together. Build the one off of the silver truck @Evergreen_Offroad and add the wings off of the red truck @gtrotter07 since my bedsides are already cut.

How it all mounts is tbd but I'm thinking I'll just weld this bumper on vs making it removable. I'm tentatively thinking I'll weld in a crossmember to the rear of the frame with a hitch coming out of that and then build the tubes off of the hitch. Then add end supports over near the wheel wells. We'll see how it looks once I get the bumper off and actually start this build process.

I'm quite impressed at the dedication to make that drawing.

Mine has a crossmember welded in, and all welded to the frame. I can get more pics if you need to see anything. Credit for the bumper goes to @BigRedToy

I'm always down for more pics if you don't mind. I'm still somewhat new to the fab stuff and I'll take any inspiration I can get. After looking at pics more I think I'm going to do it a little differently than what I was originally thinking. Since my frame ends at the back of the shackle hanger, there's not a lot of extra room. I'll cap the end of the frame with 1/4" plate and have some 1/4" legs coming up (red) to hold the round tube where I want it. Since everything will be welded, the bumper will essentially act as a crossmember. I still want to put a hitch in the center for recoveries and will figure out some way to tie that into something else so I don't tweak anything on a good tug.

It also has scab plates on the side, and of course the shackle flip bolted through. I'll try and get more pics later.

Bringing this over here to stop spamming that thread lmao

step 1: Unbolt driveshaft from axle
step 2: slide rear portion out of slip joint
    step 3: cut off splines
Step 4: use those splines to make the splined portion on the new driveshaft.

Alright I follow you there. Where’d that other piece come from with the spicer number you referenced? Haha I’m guessing it’s in the first section of driveshaft

This is what the spline section looks like when you buy from spicer. Driveshaft tube gets welded onto that left side plug, which I cut off.

I was trying to source this so you could avoid cutting up your driveshaft but I can’t find it on its own DAEECEAA-D791-42CF-A402-B9E615580C45.jpg
