I would want to get a used decent one on craigslist. Im actually looking now, but the selection is poor. Ive found a welder, cart, extra wire, and gas for $400. That seems like a decent starting price to me

That's not horrible. Then you wouldn't have to rewire your garage just yet,

    I would. Because even a 110v needs more than a 15amp plug

I thought mig ran off straight gas? I haven't really looked at them at all.

Edit: Ah, I looked a little more. Nevermind.

Monkeys can MIG. Learning stick first is helpful. Also, reading a book about the science behind it is priceless.

the gas is for shielding/cleaner welds.

all this splatter, is from using no gas. Which you will have to clean up later with a flap disc or grinding wheel

@Mobtown Offroad said he uses some sort of spray on the metal which also helps reduce splatter. I'm curious what it is.

there is also high heat primer. Means you can prime the metal before you weld it.

Are the center holes of 16 and 17in wheels the same diameter? Want some flush TRD center caps for my wheels but I have 16s and the caps are for 17s.

I assume they are but figured I’d ask.

That weld appears to be done by a flux core welder, if so you cant use spatter spray and they dont use gas. Thats about as good as you get with a flux core. Weld looks a little cold but youll always get spatter with flux core. Youll need a scraper and to make the weld prettier, brush it with a wire brush.

What does it mean when a weld is cold? Just bad penetration?

I would take it as not enough heat. The guys in our fab shop use that spray at work. Tig isnt that bad. I never did it till I started the job Im at now and its surprisingly easier than one would think. It may not be pretty at first but that doesnt matter as long as you have good penetration and grinder and wire wheel.

Moar heat! Yes, penetration won't be the best. Have to play with voltage and wire speed to increase amps (heat)

Well...I was planning on doing a quick run up Bald Mt this afternoon and I stopped by my parents house which is 10 mins from the trail. When I got to the house I was giving my truck a quick look over before heading out and noticed grease thrown all over the truck behind the drivers side front wheel. Did some investigating and my boot is torn on my CV shaft. I did the boot slide mod, so I am guessing I pulled it out too much. So now Im trying to decide do I buy a new cv axle and get reboot kits for this one and another one I have sitting at the house and have spares or do I reboot this one? I dont have much time to really mess with the truck with me getting stuck working every weekend. What to do? What to do?
