I just grind a little bit, and lay some beads. I'd be here all day grinding otherwise.

Also I think I need a darker shade helmet. I got a fixed shade 10, and I think an 11 or maybe 12 would suit me better.

That doesn't look too bad! I want to learn to weld too!

I just finished showering after stripping my basement foundation of insulation. Don't know why the builder did it, and it is now against building code, but that crap is the devil. It took me two showers to finally quit itching. I filled the bed of the truck twice running the insulation to the dumpster as I went. Now it is ready to be framed!

I'm having fun! And I don't think it's too bad either for only my 4th bead ever laid. My first one though was atrocious.

Oof, that sucks. I've felt that way after getting some fiberglass on my arm. That SUCKED.

Do yourself two favors. Go to a metal recycles and get a scrap price of 1/4" to weld on so you don't burn your shit down. Second, if you're going to get into welding, spend a few extra dollars on a decent hood. I spent like $150 on my Miller hood and its nice AF. Being able to see both during and after welding is very important.

And the 1/4" should be like 2'x2' so you can put it down and use it as a welding surface to work on your other pieces. You don't actually lay any beads down on it.

Yes I quoted myself :luvya: :D

Oh shit I was wondering where that quote came from! I'm going to Mobtown tomorrow, so I'm gonna see if I can take a peek in their scrap bin and snag a few practice pieces.

EDIT: Just saw it was two posts above :bananadead: Thought it was from a different thread.

EDIT #2: Got a link to that hood?

I guess its a little more than I remember but it works really well. Comes with 2 or 3 replacement lenses too.

I'll definitely keep this in mind. Returning the other one plus selling my RTT will free up plenty of funds.

On an unrelated note, I looked up how much it'd be for a relentless fab bumper shipped to me. It was like $430 in shipping alone :bananadead:

    No more RTT?

I'm happy that I live like 10 miles from a great tacoma fabricator!

Yeah, I decided an RTT just isn't for me so I'm putting out a feeler and gonna chat with the wife about it later. It's a pain with the big dog because he sleeps in the annex, so that means every trip I'll have to set it up. A nice 4 person ground tent will suit my needs a lot better. If you know anyone interested, I'll let it go for $1200.
