    depends on where we are and which county over here, and where the incident happens. First on scene gets pretty mixed out here. Some of the FDs will drag ass on Medicals since the ambulance drivers are the medics

    Nearest hospital is 20 miles away here, volunteer FD's are relied on heavily as first responders. The volunteer station I was at has paid employees now and it's generally pretty quiet. The nearest ambulance station is 10 miles from the FD where we live.

    I have an app on my phone that uses GPS to show me which hospitals are closest to me. I just checked and I have 21 hospitals within 10 miles, all ranging from Trauma, cardiac, stroke, pediatrics, and more. The system is way different when you’re in the middle of a huge metro area.

    Thank you, I'm out of the FD now. My dad was a professional FF and volunteered at our local station, my brother and I followed him there and on calls every chance we got from as far back as I can remember. I just never fell in love with it enough to pursue it as a career and gave it up after volunteering for 12 years.
