Maybe this gives you some flexibility for what you want to do? It would keep stock appearance while eliminating all glare off the hood.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...up-buy-aka-elusive-elements-light-bar.222333/

I just picked up one of these mounts over Black Friday (no more group buy, just bought it through BAMF website). Im planning on mounting a couple SS3 Pro driving lights first, then maybe adding a lightbar to it later on.

EDIT: didnt see all the posts after the quoted one when I made this, but I think this is still makes a good option!

yeah, this is something i was wondering out also. the ss3 max seem so bright they would "wash out" the headlights within the fog beam pattern.

regarding what you guys are talking about directly above, would the ss3 pro's with a hidden light bar be a better option?

SS3 pros even wash out a set of stock headlights if I'm being honest. Let alone the maxes...

And he already has a set of SS3 pros! There's a difference between goals while driving at 75mph vs 30 though. I usually don't have my fog lights on when cruising down the highway mainly because they distract me into looking at things that are so close I couldn't do anything about them anyway.

That said, in a perfect world you would generally have 2 groups of lighting on a vehicle. A "low beam" setup with Crash's upgraded headlights and SS3 fogs which get you the best value while reducing glare and keeping light low and out of your eyes. Then a "high beam" setup where you have headlight high beams as well as distance + mid-range lights when speeds are higher. I understand that's not always possible (hence a combo light bar being in existence), and I know a lot of us want to just turn on EVERYTHING when the road's clear. I'm not always an exception to this rule either.

Received my SS3 Max Selective Yellow fogs from Colton today. (Many thanks!) Am I the only one who has a full Tacoma fog light swap down to about 20 minutes?

I did notice something interesting on the new lights though. My Pros had a clear notation that they were SAE compliant on the front of the lights.

The new Max's had no indication. Not that this is a huge issue. Just found it interesting. Can't wait to try them out a bit later if I get time. And later tomorrow, the weather is supposed to go to hell in a hand basket.

I actually noticed that too. I do a welfare check of about 25% of the equipment that passes through my hands, and I noticed that a couple of the Maxes had the SAE printing on the bezel, and most had it printed directly on the lenses (where yours should be in the bottom left corner). DD actually moved away from the bezel printing, and actually started putting it on the lens so your pros must have been one of the first ones!

If somehow someone received a set with no SAE markings on them and you want them... I have the compliance documentation on hand

Is it possible/easy to swap the lenses? Like if I wanted to do them seasonally?? Just curious.

Yeah. It's a T10 torx, and a 5-min swap. They have blue Loctite on them so I (and I can't stress this enough) STRONGLY recommend removing and getting the housing up to 65F+ before attempting to remove the bolts. I actually heat mine up before I attempt to crack them open. Haven't had a single issue since I started doing that.

They are a good bolt, but I have spun out on a couple of them, and their clearances are so tight against the housings that it makes extraction difficult if you want to preserve the beauty of the housing after you've stripped one. As long as you're careful and use a good bit I wouldn't be concerned about seasonal swaps.

To add to this there is an indexing tab for the lens. It will be really obvious when you don't have it aligned correctly. Do NOT over tighten.

For my current situation (stock headlights and DD SS3 Max fogs) a lightbar would supplement my high beams (distanced lighting) while still allowing me to run my fogs.

You might consider a set of driving lights over a single bar, if street legality is a concern. You can have two 6" stage series light bars or two pods (SS3, SSC2, etc.). This guy's got a pretty nice setup.

Or see my post on 4Runners for how I did mine with a two-function switch: https://www.4runners.com/threads/mynameistorys-not-a-build-thread.5225/page-2#post-138722

Also, there's not really a use case for running fog lights at freeway speeds. The width and illumination is nice, but if they're correctly aimed you won't be illuminating anything you'll be able to react to in time (deer, random turnoffs). I'm always a little bit confused when I see reviews saying "these fog lights have really helped me avoid hitting deer!". If you're going slow enough to see and react to a deer with these, you're not going to strike it at enough speed to do any damage. You're better served by proper driving lights in these situations.

Read a little more closely again: they are street legal auxillary lights only in the 6" size, and they must be installed in pairs. This has to do more with how you appear on the road to other drivers (i.e. headlamps and taillights are mandated in pairs). So even a single 12" bar in the driving pattern, while functionally identical, is not legal.

I have both. 30" stage series bar up top is not road legal (for height and plurality/output reasons) but the SS3 driving lights in the grill are. Well, technically not the way I have them illuminated here in this picture. Fogs and auxiliary/high beam lights can't be on at the same time. I have a dual function rocker switch that lets me turn them on anytime OR with the high beam stalk toggle.

If you are running those Max's with headlights there is a lot of glaring light to other drivers.

Thanks @memario1214 for sending the Max’s via UPS! The other pkg en route on USPS hasn’t had an update the past few days lol

They’re not aimed yet, just a quick snap after install, for comparison. It was getting cold out!

edit: the greenish yellow of the Max’s are not as apparent as my iPhone makes it out to be.

Love it thanks for sharing! Yeah I started using UPS after we got BURNED with that last volley that got dropped off. I have a shipment of Maxes that were supposed to be to me over a week ago that are in "pre-shipment" status still... Terrified to see their condition when (if) they arrive.

Jealous of the people here with heated garage space haha. This time of the year I don’t want to touch a wrench or lay my back on cold concrete but I guess these light are worth it!
