I think they plan on having different power levels (While this is our entry level pod it is no slouch). Possible that they are using boost HX chips and a darker lens for the higher level.

Can't guess about the laser thingies though.

That’s right, IIRC the did claim to use the boost chips, meaning paired with those yellow comments, they seem likely to offer at least 2 output levels.

    Here is my story :)

I bought iJDMTOY yellow fog light on Amazon in 2019, they completely repeated appearance, price 160 usd.
Then I bought white lenses BD - Installation lenses BD on iJDMTOY without problems - fully identical.
When I turn on them on the road - the counter driver was not happy - I understood that
I got an SAE adapter from BD - Installation on iJDMTOY fog lamp without problems too...

This fog light was installed on Subaru - is already sold, but I dismantled the fog lights

So, I have a iJDMTOY (Almost like real Baja Designs :) ), and I need a fog light for two of my Toyota...

First option to buy an mount kit BD for Toyota, but I'm not sure that it fits to iJDMTOY body, second option buy BD Squadron SAE for Toyota, but I chose the third option
Despite the fact that I have spare, replaceable lenses for BD - I decided to buy DD SS3 SAE (Fog/Pro/Yellow)
I often drive with fog light on, often rains or snow and fog - and I read the whole topic "The LED SAE J583 Fog Pod & Fog Light Review" (266 pages !!!) - DD SS3 SAE I think this is the best choice.

there is still a fourth option: to my wife car, RAV4, I ordered and now expect, original fog lights with lenses from Lexus 81220-30380 / 81210-30430. What, too, as I think good, but they are not in yellow

As they're using 3 chips rather than the more common 4 arrangement, I'm wondering if they'll have opted for the brute force approach to matching performance, perhaps much higher drive currents. The other option would be to design and use a much larger optic, but high drive currents would be the seemingly less expensive route.

Also interested to see what their laser boost performance is like. A tiny high intensity, low divergence spot is not necessarily useful if the rest of the beam pattern fails to provide useful/significant reach on its own.

Welcome! That is a big tell that the iJDMToy components are fully swappable with Baja. Blatant copies. Even though they look identical and the lenses and SAE inserts may be compatible, the output is most likely less as they certainly used lower quality cheaper LEDs in the IP theft build to reduce the cost.

I've not tried those Lexus projector fogs, so I have no data on how they'd compare, but OEM fogs in 6000k are really not ideal for poor weather conditions. Unfortunately selective yellow is uncommon for OEMs, though Subaru has these OEM selective yellow units. If you wanted to send those Lexus projector units my way, I could test them and return them to you. PM me is interested. The SS3s will be a significantly better performing product than knock off BD SAEs or real BD SAEs. I wouldn't even factor having spare lenses in the equation.

If they are using the same chips, it seems questionable to get 3 emitters to outperform a 4 emitter arrangement. Even pushed harder the ability of the thermal characteristics of the pod will be a limiting factor. The Boost chips are 20w each, but in DDs Max the 4 emitter unit only pulls 38-39w, interestingly the same as the Pros, which seems to imply a thermal ceiling on what a pod of that size is capable of cooling. Or course maybe they came up with something more cleaver for cooling? TBD. They could reduce the beam spread so the pattern is smaller and therefore higher intensity, and then claim that their pods are brighter than anything else as measured by peak output intensity. That doesn't necessarily mean better though, as a wide fog pattern is important and reducing your pattern to meet an advertising metric is a numbers game.

The lasers seem pretty gimmicky on the surface. Will have to see how it performs, because exactly as you mention a very tiny high intensity spot in the beam isn't very useful if the rest of the beam isn't up to similar levels. And the laser add-on design has significant obstruction in the main pattern optics, which seems like it will hurt the performance of the main beam, to add a small focal spot with the laser. Interesting stuff though, I love the competition and about time Morimoto stepped up the game from their original LED fogs.

The pattern on those looks fairly narrow/forward directed, which makes sense with what appears to be a more traditional projector. Not ultra wide like the 90+ degree spread on the Lexus reflector based units.

    ROOKIE ALERT!

I'm picking up my CBI baja front bumper at the end of the month for my 2017 SR, which has no fog lights and obviously no light bar. I need fogs and a 20" bar option to work with the bumper that I spent all this money on. I haven't gone through this entire thread but I suspect the answer is here somewhere. Help!

You'll need to add circuits for the fog lights (something as simple as a relay and a switch in the dash, or you can check out this thread for ideas about a more "OEM" incorporation) and the light bar.

    Fog light options:
    • Diode Dynamics SS3 sport (good)
    • Diode Dynamics SS3 pro (better)
    • Diode Dynamics SS3 max (best)
Your choice on color, but yellow is preferable over white for adverse weather.

As for a 20" bar, that's a little more personal of a decision. Plenty of companies make great bars like KC, Baja Designs, Diode Dynamics, and Rigid. You'll need to spend a bit of time deciding what kind of optics/pattern you're looking for, and how much money you're willing to part with.

    Evening TW people
Just bought some 2020 LTD OEM full LEDs for my on route 2022 Sport (Canadian) to swap out my halogen DRL headlights. I also received in the deal, a set of 2020 OEM LTD blacked out fogs, again our sport trim level here in Canada is also Halogen fogs on the Sport. Would any expert like to inform me if it a plug and play to OEM harness? Here are some pics. Cheers Al

Been a while since I checked them out here: Toyota LED fogs, but I'm fairly certain it is a stock style H11/H16 connector and they are plug and play.

Thanks, that was a key tidbit I didn't know, if H16 and H11 are compatible connector-wise. Thanks for confirming.

Thank you for checking those out, even though they were somewhat of a repeat. While they weren't the worst fog lights I have had on a vehicle, they also weren't that great. The amount of reflection back to the driver in poor weather conditions made them almost useless. In fact I would say it made things worse on our Ascent, especially in snow. That makes sense given the high Kelvin rating. Once I switched to the Yellow SS3 Pro Fogs (within 3 weeks of ownership haha) it made a world of difference! My wife usually isn't very observant when it comes to lighting modifications that I do to her car, but she messaged me a few days later after going through a snow storm and she couldn't believe how good they worked compared to a previous snow storm. I'm training her pretty well I think. lol I didn't say anything to her when I installed them, I just installed them, aimed them and deployed the next day. So it was a bit of a surprise for her.

I have considered getting the MAX's since the Ascent is our primary road trip car that sees all sorts of weather and a lot more night time miles on long stretches of road, but I have a hard time justifying the cost vs performance benefit since I already have the Pro's. It still may happen at some point and I'll use the Pro's on another vehicle or I'll wait and see if DD comes out with something more crazy!!
