I’m tempted to throw a set on, but I don’t exactly have easy access as it’s my bro in law’s truck. And I’m not sure on the wiring situation. Plus no switch I can see right now. So a heavy lift.

    Usually it's 15% off, I haven't seen a 20% sale in a few years.

Note that many semis use a 24v system, which isn't compatible with the SS3s as they are designed for a 12v system. They spec an operational range of 9-16v. Trucklite and JW Speaker both make 24v fogs, but neither in selective yellow unfortunately.

No, you'd just fry them both.

Happy to report that the new SS3 Backlit is 24V compatible! :)

SS3 non-backlit will be 24V compatible as a rolling change within the next few months.

Interesting! Were you seeing a lot of interest from semi drivers?

More commercial/industrial equipment, farming and mining. But honestly, we also just really wanted to make it. If we are designing a new board, we're always going to be looking for ways to improve it!

It sounds like you're not here for advice, but here's some just in case: If the storms are really bad with zero visibility, get off the road for 15 minutes and then resume driving.

I was thinking about this two nights ago when the fog was heaviest.

Some had pulled over. It actually made things more stressful trying to determine who was moving vs who was stopped.

A passenger vehicle would have felt much less dangerous to me, better stopping distance and more tech.

In an old semi in heavy fog with expensive cargo, the options are not great. Delays incur costs and disrupt the entire schedule. Finding a safe parking spot once under thick fog is not easy unless you already know the local area well. Then how long do you wait before resuming the trip.

Having good lighting is one thing which only helps regardless of decisions made. It is lamentable that there are so many low quality options on the market.

Right, but the time and duration that fog occurs is indeterminate. A haboob is a brief storm event that is here and then gone.

    Reply from youtube video:

"To clarify, the 4Banger NCS wide beam will be compliant with the latest SAE F3 regulation for a fog light, though the 4Banger HXB wide beam is not."

Then I won't bother dwelling on that either when I do my run-through.

I would say for your purpose it depends on the style of light you want. Light bar vs light pod. If it is intended to be used in traffic then any one of the Diode Dynamics SS3 fog light yellow pods would work great. They work great in heavy snow, rain and fog that I have run across, though I haven't dealt with the dust storms you speak of. They actually project light further than you expect, especially the SS3 Max...they are insane!

If it is an auxiliary light to be used when not in traffic then the options open up quite a bit. I'm just going to stick with Diode Dynamics (DD) for now so the list isn't long. If SAE standards are a key point to you then I would suggest the DD SS3 "driving" beam pattern that is available with the selective yellow lens in the power level of your choice (see link below for testing). The good thing about SAE driving lights (properly designed ones) is that they focus on distance and some spread that allows for really good distance and some additional lighting for the shoulders. There are also combination beam patterns that aren't SAE certified but may serve the purpose you are looking for. They tend to be a combo of a spot pattern and a flood or driving pattern depending on manufacture. The down side is the added flood pattern increases foreground lighting that will impair your distance vision. DD has SS3 pods, SSC2 and Stage Series light bar with a combo light pattern all available in selective yellow and reasonable prices. There are many other manufactures that have yellow lighting, but DD is one of the only ones that specifically focuses on true selective yellow at a reasonable price. Hopefully helps shed some light (pun intended haha) on what you are looking for.
