Your right can't guess. Looks pretty much the same. Maybe if the projected area was more uniform?

So the SAE’s light up the whole side of a house. Looks about right from what Baja designs said about lighting up street signs.

Could you project these on a large wall? id love to see the comparison of the beam pattern. the pros are obviously brighter but just want to see where all the r&d went with the beam pattern. baja designs dropped the ball on this one

The pros are definitely brighter in person, but a lot of that light is above the horizon which makes them completely unusable on the street unless you treat them like high beams and shut them off whenever you’re near another car. The SAE’s should be perfect for everyday driving.

I should have taken a photo while I had them apart swapping lenses, the pros have a reflector base around each diode while the SAE’s have a plastic “bubble” over each diode (looks like a projector lens). I’ll try to run out later tonight and find a flat lot with a wall I can shine them on, stay tuned...

Now I am wondering if they just put dimmer LEDs in the SAE approved ones.

I think it's a lense that smothers the light from the led before it hits the wide/cornering lense, but i suspect the same thing. I like mine, but I only seem to need them on dusty off-road trails.

Since I have to open them up to swap lenses, I’ll take a few pics of the internals for comparison. Agree that the internal “lens” is the obvious difference

I believe it is the same/similar optics to the D-Series SAE driving light, which are SAE J581. A high beam/driving light pattern will be excellent for distance street use, as it will give a better spread than spot, but better distance projection than other patterns (save spot). Rigid’s color temp is a bit blue for my person taste, Diode Dynamics also makes an SAE J581 high beam street legal bar in a better color temp that is closer to 5000k. I have not compared them directly though.

They used dimmer LEDs and ditched the internal reflector, as well as used a different lens optic.

When you get the other SAE installed could you grab a pic against a wall when you can? Looks sweet, amber looks nice.

I agree. I left my lights on and parked my truck on the side of the road. Then I took my wife's Subaru and drove past. I didn't think they were obnoxious at all. Yes they appeared brighter than my HID headlights (because of the cutoff) but they weren't even close to being annoying.

Rome604, do you have the white or amber lights? I think the wide cornering is blowing out the picture above from the front shot.

Agree 100%, I only took these pics because I haven’t see this comparison anywhere yet and thought someone else might want the reference. I was looking to change over to something that I could use on the street and this fits the bill. I haven’t had any real time behind them yet but the BD SAE’s put plenty of light where you need it and it seems like the cutoff is way better for oncoming traffic.
They don’t compare to the Pro’s but they’re not supposed to...

*I* would rather you have foglights that don’t appear to be brighter than your regular headlights(see below for reference). *I* would also like a foglight to actually be useful in the fog. I think these should be marketed as driving lights.

*I* am very happy with my Baja Designs fogs. *I* do not care that they appear slightly brighter because again....they are not obnoxious. *I* would also prefer people not comment on the function/quality of lights they do not own. But hey *we* don't always get what we want.
