    For the most part, this road goes from ridgetop to ridgetop. There is a some going down, then going back up to the next ridge but mostly the road is up on top of the ridges.

    From a photography perspective, this presents a challange. You will see that the view shifts from looking north (to the right of the road) to looking south (towards the left) and the way the smoke and the sunlight effect the photographs, especially in the morning light.

    It is so dependent on snowfall. It makes it a challenge to plan an expedition. Some winters there is so much snow, the fire season in the following summer is very short or non-existant. Same with planing a fall trip. I've read there have been major snow storms in the first half of October in some years.

    I think when I return for round 2 of Magruder/Lolo it will be in September.
