I always thought they would be cool but never really wanted one until this last weekend at the expo in Flagstaff. It would be really cool to set up camp, unhitch, and leave to go on night runs or whatever. Packing up every day of camping to wheel kinda sucks.

Are you building with a Toyota lug pattern? I think that's useful so you can use the tires as spares in an emergency.

Yessir. Matching the 6 on 5.5. I thought the same thing. Now my spare on the swingout will work for both trailer and truck and if things go unlucky and mess up 2 tires, I can steal from the trailer and at least have a better chance of getting out and going back for the trailer later

Nice! I'm thinking if I buy a trailer like the one I'm looking at to get a swing arm fabbed up for the back. It's a jeep lug pattern so the extra spare would be needed.

You could do that or it probably would be just as easy to buy a trailer axle with the same lug pattern as your truck and swap them out. You could sell the old axle and make some of your money back.

I was talking to my buddy last night. He works at a fab shop and can get deals on the materials I need. He and I might build one from scratch this summer now. Without tires or axle, it proved out well below 1k. Might be worth it.

How do you like the Icon dual shock setup? Do you just weld on tabs for the secondary shock on the stock LCA and then add the shock hoop? And I hate to admit it but this is way better than the old Taco!

    Thanks!

The secondary shock hoop is bolt on. Icon makes a lower control arm skid that is the mounting point for the second shock so their set up is weld free.

Down the line I hope to get TC stock length racing LCAs so I don't need the skid though.

You can see the skid here.

Do you think it would be more cost effective to cut a totaled tacoma in half and use the bed as a trailer (put a bed rack and tonneau or just a shell) or build one from scratch?

That would be bad ass! Would give you a spare rear assembly too

Yeah. I can't help but think it would be cheaper too. All the expensive parts to get out of a totaled truck are up front. The rear is pretty useless. Would be such an easy build.

Just add a tongue box with a battery, some better leaf springs, bilstein 5100s.
