    Good evening ladies and gents,

I picked up the Morimoto Elite HID kit from The Retrofit Source and am overall happy with the product. My only complaint is that the hotspot seems to do this little shimmy when going over bumps which does get old pretty quickly. I called The Retrofit Source today and the person I spoke to said they he had heard of this issue on our trucks and suggested that the issue is actually based on a bad housing. He said that a family member of his actually had the same issue and he took it to Toyota who replaced the headlight. I have no reason to doubt him so I have an appointment with my dealer tomorrow to get it looked at.

This is where the point of this post comes in at. Has anyone else experienced this issue? If so, what did you do to resolve it? I have an ARB bumper on my truck and I think that if my dealer does see that it's a bad housing, they won't be able to do anything because you have to remove the bumper in order to remove the housing (I think). I just don't seem them doing that free-of-charge and honestly I don't think I could blame them.

Did you notice it with the stock projectors? I am unfamiliar with adding hids in a 3rd gen, but i know adding projectors to a 2nd gen is a lot of added weight, but i never noticed mine bouncing around.

The second they see the HIDs you’re going to get laughed out of the dealership bud.

This a super common issue with the Morimoto kit from TRS. They continually state that it isn’t an issue since they updated gaskets - and they aren’t wrong. You’re seeing the bounce because of the hotspot and intensity of the light - but your dealer will certainly not fix it. Kinda BS that they sent you off to the dealer.

Search on Tacomaworld for Morimoto bounce. You aren’t the only one.

Edit: I have this same kit and have a little bounce on country roads. Nothing unbearable. I’ve learned to live with it.

I've had this kit for well over a year, 35w, and even with the hardened gaskets my bulbs still bounce. I don't really notice it much any more but I am going to try the CN bulbs sometime in the future to see if that eliminates the bounce.

Yep...kind of figured this would be the case. I'm at Toyota now and got that feeling when talking with the service manager. Beginning to think this might be a waste of time. I've also read that others have had this issue with no real resolution. Thanks everyone for the input.

Nah...I mentioned that to tech support and their excuse was the hotspot not being there with the standard lights

It's a known problem. Either get a Xenon Depot HID kit or retrofit.

My old kit had a pretty bad bounce, and since I live on shitty country roads, I went with a retrofit.

Toyota came back and said what I predicted..."not our problem" which I can't blame them. The tech did say that he had the same issue in his truck and went LED and no longer had the issue. TRS is working with me to test LED and HID and see which one performs the best and let me send the other kit back. I'm sure the HID will be superior but am curious to see by how much.

For what it's worth, I've had DDM Tuning HIDs in my Tacoma for over a year and never had the bounce. Check out the other thread that has more info on the Morimoto bounce issue, I think one of the TRS guys was posting in there at one point too.

While I haven’t done 3rd gen Tacoma’s I have done a giod bit of HID kits in Newer 4Runners. I use the CN Light H11b bulbs and have not had any issue whatsoever.

+1 on the DDM. Had them in my Frontier for 8 years and never had an issue. And that thing rode like a lumber wagon with a 6” lift and 33s
