Damn lucky the winch line snapped where it did and all coiled at the stuck vehicle. My only question is, where the hell was the shovel? I know that was some sloppy shit, but I think the boards would have been better used to block new mud from falling into the trench they should have dug around the wheels. That would have gotten rid of the suction on the tires and hopefully the under carriage that was holding that vehicle in.

Had they not busted the winch, I would have tried putting tension on the line and let it sit for a few hours. Sometimes when you do that, you will come back and the vehicle will have popped free.

I tried catching all the things they did wrong. It's like those kid's books at the doctor's waiting room where you try to find all the stuff in the picture.

-standing too close to winch line
-not having a damper on the winch line
-not having the winch properly connected to the battery
-vehicle is off while winching leads to a dead battery
-no one in the winching vehicle
-I can't really say, but it looks like the blue/white rope was meant for an atv at best, but more like they stole it off a clothesline
    -blue/white rope has hooks
-blue/white rope not attached to stuck vehicle with a d-ring or enclosed loop
-old strap attached to trailer ball
-two straps connected together (should have just used the one with the blue ends)
-snatch strap attached to trailer ball of recovery vehicle
-people standing too close to snatch strap
-sounds like old strap was in poor condition and should have been retired

    Did I miss anything? :infantry:

Been there, done that, only ...... 1st, get a reliable "Snatch-em" strap, HD clevis' & approiate hardware. Then be safe, double or triple the winch cable (with idler pulleys) & for gosh sake, lay a blanket or something heavy over the cable or strap before you pull to avoid someone getting an arm, leg, or head cut off when it breaks, & the hardware comes at you like a bullet.

Wowzers. Best place to be is in front of your truck while winching..........morons. What was so bad about it though, you gotta yank like that with a tow strap. I have a SuperYanker tow rope that is meant to be stretched. They definitely should not have been pulling from the trailer ball, they thought that Clevis was scary flying at them, imagine the 2" trailer ball..British people..llawl

Ehh your comment is misleading, and it's not entirely your fault- the industry fails at using standard names for recovery products

A tow strap is generally inelastic (at most it is semi elastic) and meant for towing vehicles on flat surfaces with minimal resistance. It can double as a tree saver. You should not use it in a dynamic pull under any circumstance.

A recovery strap, also known as a snatch strap, is elastic and meant for tugging vehicles free from a stuck position where there could be increased friction. A snatch strap can also be used for towing.

Unfortunately, people tend to use the term recovery strap when they shouldn't
